Summer blackouts are likely in all of West, energy experts say Bloomberg Business News
Blackouts like those in California are likely across the entire western part of the United States this summer, an energy research group said Friday.
Critical power shortages will take place at least 200 hours this summer in the west, said Cambridge Energy Research Associates, which provides research and data to the energy industry.
The shortages will cause at least 20 hours of rolling blackouts, the report predicted. Those are controlled cuts in electric service to some customers to avoid wider disruptions.
The report came a day after California Gov. Gray Davis issued a series of emergency orders designed to speed up power-plant construction in his state.
