problem with Ilford multigrade

I have a problem with a package of Ilford multigrade IV matt paper which is producing muddy prints. It's a 100 sheet bulk pack I bought last year sometime. I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. It's not the negative, safelight or chemicals because I turned out a beautiful print from other Ilford paper I have using the identical process. I also found that a contrast filter made almost no difference in the results. I haven't looked for Ilford's website yet until I know if it's just me with this batch of bad paper.

Probably age, heat damage or a combination. I've had MG IV RC go off in a surprising short time.

It's the paper alright - I took a sheet from the middle of the pack and right into the developer. Not only did the emulsion turn a light grey but the reverse side of the paper is a pale beige colour, which was there before it went into the soup. What gives? I've stocked paper as long as two or three years without this problem. I'm asking Ilford about it but I'd still like to hear from anyone else who has had a similar problem.
