Football movie?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Sorry if this has been brought up before--i don't have much free time on the net and can't read this site very often--but I was just listening to a french radio station over the internet and heard an advertisement for a movie called "Newcastle Boys" saying something like "In Newcastle football is religion." What is this? Is it any good? Anyone in the States hear about this being shown here?

Thanks,

New one on me Brad - sorry I can't help.
Where are you based? You need to get yourself unmetered access and post more often - we need some more active contributors.

Brad.....it's probably the changed French name for the film Purely Belter based on the book Season Ticket by Jonathan Tullock.

Its about two Gateshead lads and the scams the pull to buy a season ticket for St James' Park.

It seems to change its name depending on the country showing it and their aversion to 'British' slang

Haven't heard anything about it being shown over here, Brad. I would think it would probably only show in the arty-type theaters. I saw it while I was over. I enjoyed it. Not the greatest film ever made by a long shot, but I thought it was better than the book. Much less depressing ending. I wonder how it would play to US audiences because so many references are so local, and I can't imagine people here really understanding the kind of passion that would drive 2 kids to do so much for a ticket. I'm not sure the film does a great job of explaining the background and culture. Hard for me to really judge that however.

Don't mind my babble, I've not eaten much today and am trying to keep myself from gnawing on my couch until my friends show up and we go out to dinner. ;-)

Ah, right, that's probably it..I've heard of that one before, thanks!

I'm based in Milwakuee, USA, and I don't have metered access...problem is that working full time (I'm not allowed to use internet for personal use at work...yeah, I know, I know, but it is really hard to not get noticed where I sit, so I only save it for important things like following wednesday matches. Although I think I'll not bother from now on if they're playing in london) and going to school almost full time I just don't have much time to spend on the internet. But I'll try to peep up a little more often.
