Poe's "Annabell Lee" was written after the death of his wife (also his cousin) Virginia Clemm. The poem tells of his love for her that shall never die, and that the only reason she was taken from him was because of envy among the angels of heaven, for they found no such love amongst even such divine ranks. He always mourned her death, even to the last days of his own life. P A Regan
