DVD Recorder - Apple and Pioneer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Does any body have some updated pricing on these models. I've been to the Apple website and nowhere does it give a price for just the DVD drive - I don't know much about Apple, but I doubt that drive could be used on a IBM based PC. Plus I thought that Pioneer was offering up some better pricing for their model too, but I haven't seen what that will be. Also, what is the current price for DVD-R media? Is it dropping in price?

If this all goes where I think it will and as fast as it is, we'll be dumping this limited VCD format pretty darn fast.

DVD is the ultimate destination. I have seen DVD blanks at Fry's Electronic ( So California) for about $10 ( Taiwanese made - no name brand ). It won't be long before we see a dollar disc. Too bad I just recently bought a G-4, otherwise I would place an order for that top of the line Mac.

The drive is the Pioneer DVR-103. It is PC/Mac compatible. Apple makes out like it's some sort of 'SuperDrive' exclusive to them, but it's just this new Pioneer drive. It will retail for about $995 and go on sale soon.
