Will my cat get bigger?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

I have read that most maine coons are at least 12 pounds. I have a 2 year old silver maine coon and he only weighs 8 pds, will he get bigger? He is very healthy and stays inside, I feed him Science Diet food and seems fine. I heard that they don't get to full size until they are about 5 years old. Is this true? My husband says he's done growing, but I think he'll get bigger.

Don't be disappointed...my female, Wiggy, weighs only seven pounds...but my boy Bugsy's not even a year, and already he's 13 pounds. Both are fabulous pets. I guess expecting all Maine Coons to be huge is like expecting all Irish people to have red hair.

Superb question. I have a little rascal that is not yet 1 yr old - and have read the stories of being slow to mature, etc. But there's no way around it - he's small/little and in every other appearance and behavior distinctly & completely MC cat. His paws are the size of baseball mits... But I doubt he'll every catch his small/medium sized 'brother' (jet black domestic shorthair) in size.
