Paulownia Trees

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I am getting ready to do some long-term landscaping on my land, specifically on the road leading to our home. I want to plant trees alongside the road, and am leaning to flowering types. I recently read about the Paulownia Tree and it sounds good. I had seen the wild paulownias that grow along I-40 in Tennessee and noted how beautiful they were in the spring. I thought to mix them with bradford pears, another flowering tree. Anyone know anything much about the Paulownia??

This link tells about said tree in China. Sounds like a pretty cool tree to use on any homestead.

Don't forget the flowering dogwood, magnolia and tulip tree. Then there are those on which the color of their leaves would enhance the drive, such as the red maple. Most seed catalogs carry trees which should fit your need.

Wayne, Fast growing trees. Had bought several a few years back. Very pretty blooms. Note: Keep them out of your pasture. My bull loves to rub his back on the smaller trees. Snap them off in the middle. Very soft wood. I understand the Asian folks use the wood for some type of special "craft", as in some type of wooden box. You might try a search(web) for the paulownia for more info. Our info.came from our county agent.

I saw the beautiful trees up close in North Carolina, have some seeds to plant as well. One bad thing, they reseed easily, may be invasive. good luck, Larry
