What did you mean?

I am well aware of what a "Fakir" is, I used the word loosely. I also at times use the word "gentleman" loosely, and the word "pal" too! And lots of times when I say "have a nice day" what I am really thinking is "Eat shit and die fuckwad"

Cleared up?

Not really:

You are saying that you use words randomly; their meaning, which is unknown to you, makes no difference.

Anita; you must quit posting using Unk's name.

OK, once more for the challenged.

A fakir is a mystic of sorts, a magician if you will. The word "fakir" in fact came from westerners who believed that the feats of the fakir must be "faked". Thus, since my imposter was a fake, and the word "fakir" came from the belief that the "fakir" must be faking, I used the word "fakir" instead of "faker". Sort of a double entendre.

And besides, for all I know the handle thief could actually be a real fakir posting from India or somewhere.

Actually, the word "faker" might just have evolved from "fakir", but you get my drift, eh?

No, not my snow drift, my meaning.

Unk:

Of course you are wrong in your history of the word. But then: HeeHee

This response relflects the fact that I have no idea if you are Unk or not. A problem here-abouts.

Agreed, it is tough to tell the players without a card. And hopefully my third post reflects more accurately the history behind the word, if not please feel free to enlighten us all.

Now if y'all will excuse me, I have a Tommy Dorsey concert to attend.

Oh, and yes I am aware that Tommy is dead. Buddy Morrow conducts the band these days, and does a fine job I might add.

Unk:

No Unk, if you are Unk, I understand you completely [or compleatly]. Lord Cherwell, so to speak.

Glen Miller has my vote...

I agree UB,

The Mrs and I have seen the Miller band about five or six times now, and those boys always rock the house down, and I mean they wail! I have a scad of Glenn Miller CDs, his orchestra is by far my favorite big band with that unmistakable Miller sound, the clarinets just an octave higher than the horns.

But the Dorsey Band knows how to put on a great show too, no doubt about it. They were hot tonight, with a fine singer, playing tunes from "The Flight of the Bumblebee" on trumpet (yowser!) to "I've Got You Under My Skin" to "One O'Clock Jump". One hell of a show, if you like swing music that is, and unless you are a heathen you like swing music.
