Where are all y'all? I'm home sick today. It's 930 and I'm so bored already. Maybe I'll just go into work.

I'm about to KILL yahoo messenger. It keeps saying my login info is incorrect. I hate it. Hate!

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

An Bei here, Hannah! How's hannahbeth.com coming?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

They still haven't given my FP extensions, so I can't do anything yet. Are you have trouble with YM?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I don't know, let me try to log in.

I hate FP extensions. I could never understand what was going on. Also, one time I deleted all of hardlucy.com with FP. Not pretty.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

No, it's working. I rook for you, you no there! Why Yahoo mean to hannahbeth?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

How did you do the different background colors?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

YM's working for me, as far as I can tell.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I made it in Photoshop, then saved it as a background .gif, then applied it to the page. It was so easy, but it took me forEVAH to figure out.

What are y'all's favorite colors? Don't ask me why, just say.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Red and White. Like Maryland. That's not why I picked the school, though.

Y'all, I might fall asleep right here at my desk.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oh, so it's one giant background, not different colors for each table? Bc I figured out how to do that

YM say my login info incorrect! I don't get it.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I like blues. But mostly purpley blues.

See, the way your-site told me to publish via FP is not the way I do it for geocities, and they haven't told me my acct. has extensions yet, so I don't quite get it.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I figured they would just activate your address, and then you could upload to that. Like, ftp.hannahbeth.com. No go?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Bonjour, I have arrived.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Herro?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Jags?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Bueller?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Any of y'all want to come to Washington this weekend? A friend's band is playing.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Now he starts with the invites.

I have a date with the Chao's thank you.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Good lord, that Hiro guy.

If we made him an integer, he'd kill us all with words.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

He's just sad because nobody wants to move to DC. Poor DC.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Ugh ugh ugh. I think I want to go change out of this suit. I really just want to crawl into bed. Or leap five years in to the fufure when I'll likely have a little kid and I won't have to work.

But I actually have a shit ton of stuff to do today.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

T finarry make it! We have to chat without you, and be sad!

It's so ugly outside today. Yuck.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

It is. It's gross in the D/FW.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

And yesterday was STUNNING.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

No shit. Yesterday we were living in the Virgin Islands.

Today, we in monsoon season!

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

That's Dallas, baby. If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes.

No Survivor mail today?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm sure the Survivor mail will pick up after tonight. We're not wagering for each week's voting off. I so sad.

T, I would like to have your favorite color. For reference, you see.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

My favorite color is purple.

The weather here is STUNNING, y'all. It is beautiful. But I'm still in a crap ass mood. I think I'l go eat lunch - All I've had today are two mini Baby Ruth's.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

In D.C., it is clear and cold. Excellent football weaher. Or Survivor- watching weather.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm going to lunch, my pretties. See you in a while.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oh, for christ's sake. Have y'all looked at Meg's journal today?

Eric Clapton, there's a special place for you in heaven for having freaks like Meg memorialize their pet rats with your music.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Well, I'm back. JoAnn turned me down for lunch. She has a toothache.

Did another of Meg's rats die?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I think that my friend Charles needs to pay a visit to Sir Phoenix.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oh lord, y'all...not Sir Phoenix...anybody but him... I think I might actually get sad about that. Who will drive the Duxus? Why God, why?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

***prayers*** for Sir Phoenix and the Duxus.

Except, not really.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

We should all send Meg an e-mail that says

Dear Meg,

****prayers****. ****HUGS****.

Love,

The Muthafuckin' MATH Club

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Ok, I just stirred the Survivor soup.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

y'all, Dreamweaver just finished downloading. That only took 3 hours. I rent the Dinosaur DVD and that shit ain't for kids, y'all. I'm traumatized.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Like Bambi was less traumatizing? All those films scar you for life.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oh my God, Snow White messed me UP, y'all. That witch scene? HelLO? I love me some Disney, though. I am a member of their sunshiney army. I know they're evil, but I don't care.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I was going to tell y'all something good, and now I forgot it because I had to go do some work. Can you even believe that? Stupid job. When are we gonna go MATHazine full-time?

Y'all, I don't want to move out of Dallas until all of you come to see the Beautiful Apartment. You couldn't all be in there at the same time, but you all have to come.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Am I just tired and cranky, or are all the "I'd never change my name" people basically saying, "Yeah, it's your choice and you can change your name if you want, but you're wrong."?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Dear squishies,

again, I am going to ask; anyone want to join my weblog team? it gets mighty lonely sometimes with just me and HG posting. there's no real rules or schedule. nothing terribly stressful about it. just a way to gather more visitors I guess. not that I have a poor number. it would just be fun to add more people. well, let me know...

one who has ran out of close friends to ask,

Amber
-- that would be starlight --

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I think you might just be cranky, M. Because I'm reading a lot of the "Of course I'm taking his name!" people the same way.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

You know, I was thinking about the name thing last night. I was looking at my mother and, I just can't imagine her not being JoAnn Lowe. Her maiden name is Rice. JoAnn Rice? Huh. That's not her name.

So, I think the "identity" talk is BS. If anyone in the WORLD is secure in her identity, it's JoAnn. And I will tell you that for free.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I guess I'm just going to post a million times now.

Do you know what irritates me the MOST about that name thread? I HATE it when people say "Sure I changed my name. Now I'm a B instead of an R!"

That is my main problem with the dorks on Squishy. They will write stuff like that, thinking it's hilarious when 1) it isn't and 2) it's cliched and 3) it impedes actual intelligent exchange on the subject.

I mean, you either do it or you don't. It's a gesture or a symbol or whatever you want to call it. It certainly makes things easier with taxes and banking and kids and whatnot when both people have the same name, but I don't think it's totally necessary anymore. I am not one of those girls who has always wanted to be Mrs. Somebody Somebody, but I'll probably do it. I will use my maiden name, too, though. I just like traditions, that's the only real reason.

Now, if I were to marry Chris (which, let's be realistic, probably will not happen), I would really have to think about it. There's already been one Mrs. Christopher A. Huff, and I don't like the thought of being the second. (Stupid girl. Stealing my favorite name and breaking the hardened-artery heart of the MOC.)

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Well, the point I sort of want to bring up on the forum -- but probably won't because it will start another tangeant and because I may be talking out of my ass here -- is that your name doesn't make a difference as much as what you're callled. Most people would probably have a much harder time changing their first name than their last, I would think, since that's what most people use in conversation,

One reason why last names may be more important for guys, IMO, is that we call each other by last names a lot. Clearly, for example, if I changed my last name I could no longer be "The Bermanator", and I would miss that. Do women call each other by their last names ever, or is that just a guy thing?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

We only do it as a joke. You guys do it because you don't want to appear that you like each other at all, I think.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Well, duh.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Yes, you could never change your name to be anything other than the Bermanator. That would be a shame.

(Unless you make your parents proud and marry some nice Jewish girl with some great name like Rosenblum or something good like that. Then you could be the Rosenator."

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oops.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I think I may legally change mine to "The Bermanator."

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

And your future wife, SHOULD she CHOOSE to change her IDENTITY, would be Mrs. The Bermanator.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'll bet even the most anti name-changing person ever would be tempted,in that case. Who could resist?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Im just an old fashioned girl, I guess. I know who I am. I'm fine with dropping Lynn as my middle name and replacing it with Lippincott. I've considered giving my kids two middle names, one of them being Lippincott. Heck, my grandmothers full name is Miriam Julia McCarthy Moore Catherine Bonnabel Lacey. Her maiden name is Bonnabel.

I think that because I come from a family where the maiden names of our grandmothers, great-grandmothers, etc., live on in our names (i.e., my mother's name is Bonnie Belle, from Bonnabel, Julie's middle name is Bonnabel, Jane's middle name is Maxey, which is our paternal grandmother's maiden name, Susan's middle name is Duke, which is our paternal great-grandmother's maiden name (Lillian Adele Duke), and Kathleen's middle name is Lacey.). All over my family, I have cousins named after the matriarchs of the family (Pernie Jane Webb Maxey, Luella Van Vrancken Bonnabel, Anita Scully Lacey, Lillian Adele Duke Lippincott...). In fact, more people are named after women than the men in the family.

When I have children, one of my girls will have Scully as a middle name. That's my maternal great-grandmother's maiden name - she married my great-grandfather Lacey. I have a cousin named Lacey. There are like eleven Katherine's in a row in my family. Name legacies aren't limited to last names, is I guess what I'm trying to say.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I think the reason I had a huge crush on my friend Mark Alteri is because if we got married, I could be Teri Alteri.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

"Luella Van Vrancken Bonnabel"

What a blessing that name is to my collection.

I love name legacies as well. Which is why I am adamant on the Martha Kathleen angle.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

When you wrote about your mother, Al, it made me think of mine. When I think of Bonnie Lacey, I think of the pictures of my mom when she was in the school plays, or her stories of dating pro basketball players and the Chris in Ruth's Chris, or he fmaily thinking she was an old maid when she was unmarried at age 27. When I think of her as Bonnie Lippincott, I think of the woman she became, who is a pretty cool person, and someone I admire immensly. But really, she's all the same person. Hmm.

I don't know quite what to make of that, but there it is. Bonnie Lacey is sort of a mystery, and I actually like it that way. It's neat to think that when I have kids, they'll wonder who Teri Lippincott was. And if they want to know, I can tell them that they're looking at her.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Al, if you like Luella Van Vranken, think of the derivations that live on in current generations. We have (these are all girls, mind you) a Louie, a Louisette, a Lou...

The best name, though, (and my grandmother has like eight siblings, so there are a lot, including all the boys named Guion, Graham, and Coo Baby) is my great aunt Laura Brockenbraugh Bobbabel Lores (she married a Cuban). She was named after a female Brockenbraugh up the line. Anyway, everybody called her L.B., which made its way into Elby. Her daughter (my mother's age), is also a Laura Brockenbraugh, but she's been Elby from birth. HER daugher, who is my age, is just plain Elby. (Big Elby, Little Elby, and Little Little Elby is how we differentiate, for real.) Now, Little Little Elby is pregnant. If it's a girl, how could she not name the child Elby? I'm trying to convince her to go back to Laura Brockenbraugh, though.

Do any of y'all read Words Diminish?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Anna Beth, your journal design kicks ass. Between all y'all, I hate mine with a passion.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Ooh - I like Words Diminish. I think I'll bookmark that one.

Why do you ask?

Where'd everybody go?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I think she's great in general, but I really liked her entry for Feb. 2.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm back. I had a staff meeting. I don't think I've read Words Diminish...

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oh, that is so, so true. I learned that, for sure. Thankfully, I got lucky.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I think it's a lesson everyone learns painfully, but she expressed it really well.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

If y'all think it's weird to think of who your mom was w/ her maiden name, try calling her an entirely new name. Y'all, my mom is just not a Fabb. She's a Hall, and it's hard to even think of her as Merrill.

My grandmother has been divorced since 1961, but she's a Merrill if there ever was one. And her ex-husband, my asshole grandfather, has been dead for 13 years, so any even tenuous connection to the Merrill last name is gone if you look it as a husband/wife thing. But she bore three Merrill Men, and if that doesn't earn her the right to die Mrs. Jeannette Elizabeth Mann Merrill I don't know what the hell would.

Where are AB and Al when I'm trying to figure out dreamweaver!!

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I use it every day for work. What do you need to know?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm here. Where is Words Diminish?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

http://www.wordsdiminish.com

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Oh. Because I'm dumb.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Yeah, that was excellent. That entry could have been titled "Allison's 28th Birthday."

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

She lives in Louisiana, I guess?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Yeah, in New Orleans. Or at least nearby.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm here!

Han, you finally got it downloaded?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Did y'all see pamie call rudergirl out on the names thread?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

"Y'all, I had no idea this was going to happen when I started this thread...like I said, it was just based on a conversation we were having in the "Chatting and Padding" section. I, like Pamie, am glad that it took off though...nice to see a little action back in the forum."

I hate rudergirl. HATE.

Uh, is it her forum too? And she's the chief padder!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

oooh, just read taht.

Ab - yes, downloaded. I'm just not sure where to start.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Are you going to transfer everything from Geocities first, or just do design and then transfer?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Okay, I officially love this journal:

"I've said it before and I'll said it again, there are certain people whom, when I'm with them, I feel like it's a sheer impossibility that anyone else on the planet is having as much fun as we are at that moment in time. I'll be with several of those people at the ball. I love Mardi Gras celebrations because even though we might wear masques, ultimately we're celebrating a brief, magical time of year when our masques come flying off. And more than the beautiful dresses and the fancy perfume and the decorations and the ceremony and the tradition and the dancing and the food and the cocktails, that's what Mardi Gras is all about. That's what matters to me."

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Herro? .

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Yeah, where'd everybody go?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm here. Is it cocktail hour yet?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

The bar is open.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'm out of here. Dinner plans have changed and I must change back into something cute. However, I don't know if I have anything that's cute. But I saw a cute skirt at Banana Republic, and that's right down the street. Alas, it is $88.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Okay, I won't buy the skirt. I kave eleventy hundred skirts. I need to save my money for Spain and I also need a few suits. I did update, though.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

I'll have a martini straight up. Dirty. Okay, with olives. 5 olives.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

You got it.

I'm out as well, y'all. Got to go work out so I don't feel guilty rotting my brain with Survivor tonight.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

An bei! You're not on YM. I tried to upload and it's telling me it can't find the host, even though I put in ftp.hannahbeth.com, which is what it is and I'm connected, and grrr. I'm hating this already.

The plan was to just set up a new site and then transfer over my archives etc.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

ooooh. It's bc I can't publish until I can see the test page at "hannahbeth.com" Which should be there by now, I'd think.

I'm sure my support guy HATES me already.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

(Then, they got married and she said "With this wing, I thee wed" at the ceremony, because she was crying so hard. When I was looking at the pictures again, recently, I asked her why she was crying and she said "Because I hated him already.")

I LOVE that!
