Game plan for sunday ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

So I am presuming that everyone is watching the chorlton/spurs game on the box.

Is there anything we should be aware of on sunday? are they stronger down the left, right or up the middle? Who makes 'em tick.

Can we beat them at home? What adjustments need to be made to make sure we get a result.

They played a hard cup -match today, maybe that can give us a little advantage? I think we have to line up a powerful midfield with Lee steering it all. I think a 4-5-1 will do in this match.

Well, it wasn't a cracker - apart from 5 mis when Spurs scored 3 (sounds familiar??). Charlton went 1-0 up with poor defending allowing Powell to sneak thru to head in a loose ball. They went 2-0 up immediately after half time.

Then Spurs decided to play and scored 3 goals in 5 mins, none of which were great goals but hit Charlton with quick attacks (well, not the first - it was an OG by an outstretched leg). Rebrov hit the 4th when Charlton were stretched. Curbishley reckons they lost not because Spurs played well but Charlton played badly.

Interesting that Keilly wasn't playing - Sassa Ilic in goal. Is Keilly injured? I hope so as I don't think Ilic is as good.

Looking at the replays, Spurs got a couple with good running into space. LKD must play up front.

I think that Keilly got injured (cruciate??) a couple of weeks ago although Curbishley wasn't sure it would keep him out for long... The thing is, what this means is that Shay will get Keilly's ROI place for the upcoming internationals and will no doubt knacker himself in the process....

Not necessarily, there's also a Kelly that's been dueling with Shay for a spot on the bench since last year, usually with Shay winding up as 3rd choice. That's why Shay's been so itchy for a regular starting spot. He's got virtually no chance if he's not playing for his club.

Ciara, so it's nothing to do with him being a spoilt brat?

Beaten by Spurs last night were:

Charlton: Ilic, Rufus, Todd, Fish, Kishishev (Newton 66), Stuart, Parker (Salako 67), Jensen, Powell, Svensson, Bartlett (Lisbie 72). Subs Not Used: Brown, Caig.

Looks like a 3-5-2 with Kishishev and Powell as wing backs. Powell opened the scoring. They have an industrious midfield with Jensen being the pick of the bunch, but we shouldn't be too afraid of them. Up front they miss Johanssen and Hunt and really Hughes and Marcellino should be able to keep things tight.

Aerially they don't pose too much of a threat, so could it be a case for Griffin's inclusion (He played for the reserves V Villa, so that may rule him out. Rufus always seems fairly solid and Fish is no mug so I guess they will be fairly hard to break down. The thing in our favour is that they tend to try to play football.
