I'm reading Back Roads by Tawni O'Dell with Raising Cain up next. What are you reading?

Right now it's _Texas_, by James Michener. This isn't a book, it's a weapon. Seriously thick, so it will take me a while, plus Michener is something that takes a little slogging through on my part.

I really enjoyed Michener's _Hawaii_, though, although it was as cumbersome as this one is.

I read Back Roads in December. It is depressing. Terrible. Good writing but man, it made me sad.

I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha. EXCELLENT. It grabs you from the beginning, is easy to read and is so informative of Japanese history, culture, and the life of geisha which is much different than I imagined.

Right now I am reading the classic, The Story of O. I am not too impressed. It reads like a cheap Harlequin romance with whips and chains in it. Erotic? Not really. The G-rated terms used for genitals make me roll my eyes.

I'm reading the 4th book of the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons, The Rise of Endymion. I HIGHLY recommend the entire series. This last one is HUGE though. I'm at the point where I'm just about ready to take a sick day from work so I can FINISH it....I want to know WHAT HAPPENS! But I'm going to miss my people SO much when I finish it!

I took three books with me on vacation recently (Cuba!), expecting to read them all, but only had perfect beach weather for two days. I managed to finish Girl’s Guide to Hunting and Fishing which was really light and easy to read. I’m only halfway through the second book now, Beneath the Skin by Nicci French. It’s excellent –- a psychological thriller about a stalker and how four different women react to his threats. Today I placed an order for Amy Tan’s next book (to be released in a couple of weeks), The Bonesetter’s Daughter, which is supposed to be part fiction, part autobiography. She’s a fantastic storyteller.

I made another start on "The Dubliners" by James Joyce. My book was displaced and just came back to light. Still reading Bred In The Bone which I carry in the glove compartment of the car to read while I wait for Heather during her hobby shop and So Fro seizures.

I went to the library and borrowed the maximum amount of books, 30 of them. I do this every few months or so, grab all the books I can carry/borrow and read for the month to 6 weeks that I can extend the books. Then I don't read anything for a while, it's binge and then think about it all, I guess.

My current read is Dick Francis, I used to buy all his books, then I moved, and can't remember what I own and what I don't. So now, I';m waiting til I have all my books in shelves before I buy any more, so I'm just borrowing and reading the latest. The men in his books are always lovely, and the sex sounds like fun, and there's tension in the plots, and I zoom through in one sitting like Harry Potter. A damn good read, and terribly sad he's rumoured to not be writing anymore. He was married for over 50 years, and his wife died unexpectedly last year, which has taken the fun out of writing for him. She was rumoured to be a major part of his writing, and at the least did a lot of the research, and at most, his favourite audience.

I'm currently reading The Princes in the Tower, by Alison Weir. I also picked up a book about the Wars of the Roses (basically for background information on The Princes in the Tower. I love history and suspect this latest reading will send me off on a history kick.
