Flanders - A few months

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

ago Clarky I think started a thread re the 1st World War.

We're off to Western France in Summer and I'd like to spend a few hours on the way back (near Calais) and see some of the sites.

My bairns will be 8 & 10 and may understand a bit (if anybody can).

A little old private museum was mentioned - seemed ideal - can somebody let me know where it was please.

I aim to stay overnight around the Arras area ish.

Josh - it was Clarky's travel tales you're on about. I'm sure he'll respond on here. If not, drop me ane-mail and I'll put you in touch.

I'd like to do that trip myself one day. Perspective and all that.

Screach - Ta I thought it was Clarky - I've trawled through loads of old threads but couldn't find it.

You'd be amazed what we've talked about on here.

We've had a few trips thro' north/north west France, for family holidays. The day we happened to drive passed the towns that have plaques on the wall showing WWI front lines was unbelievably upsetting. We didn't stop, don't think I could have, and it wasn't why we were there, but so moving, so futile the whole thing. But our leaders thought it was worth it all. How does it go .... the old lie .... Dulce est decorum est pro patria mori.

Josh, If you, or Screacher, send me your personal e-mail address I'd be happy to let you have some ideas rather than dredging it up on here again.
