What did you have for lunch?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Xeney : One Thread

Stupid question, I know. I just felt the need to share my amazing discovery.

The hot Santa Cruz from the Beach House Deli - Rocklin, CA.

Sourdough bread, hot pastrami, lettuce, tomato, pickles, fabulous mustard, avocado, bacon and... cream cheese.

And a Citra.

That sandwich was God. It needed a Newcastle to go along with it.

So what'd you have for lunch?

I had fabulous mustard too. Along with killer ketchup, marvelous miracle mayonnaise and one horribly charred hot dog. Just the way I likes it. Mmmmm mmmm good.

Fuck off.

Ahhhh, yes. Now THAT is the forum I know and love. Glad to see it's back.

Um, I had spaghetti. It was okay except it got a little cold by the time I finished eating. Now I'm having carrots, and in a little while I'll probably have a kiwi.

leftover fishsticks with macadamia nut mustard. Interesting combination. And grapes, along with lots of water.

Glad to know I could be of service.

You're not going to tell me to play nice or behave myself, are you? ;)

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2001

Not unless you keep talking about food when it's the middle of the afternoon and I'm hungry.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2001

Well, I never. I do believe that's the first time I've read such a statement directed at me with such unprovoked female fury. You actually made the blood rush to my face. And with that - I bid you farewell.

Oh, my lord. The "what did you have for lunch topic" was too rough for Crudeboy? Man. I think 3WA has made you soft, my friend.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2001

Leftover chicken marsala and lasagna from dinner out last night.

And 1/3 of a Toblerone bittersweet chocolate and almond bar, but we won't talk about that.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2001

Oh please. I was just trying to make the little crab apple feel bad. Takes more than a finger poke from a pastrami eatin' fembot to rattle my cage. Woof! Woof!

rudeboy can take as good as he gives and hate no one the more for it. (by the way - I hate ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard - no matter how fabulous.)

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2001

Well, thank the lord. I was afraid you were hiding in the little girls' room crying your eyes out or something. (And you know, you can get arrested for that sort of behavior.)

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2001

A diet coke.

Ohhh, it *would* have been a diet coke *AND* Andy Capp Hot Fries, but nooooo, the machine had to be out of change, and kept spitting my dollar bill back at me like a woman in a bukake video.

Thus I suffered.

I'm getting to this thread a little late, but yesterday, I had pizza from Corner Bakery's "Pizaaaaaahhh" at the Galleria, along with a Sprite and half of a cream cheese brownie. Their pizza is SO good. Heaven in every bite. Getting to see the little kids iceskate while you eat makes it even better!

Beef stroganoff in the thoroughly depressing basement cafeteria in the Forest Science building across the street, with a friend (she had the veggie entree, which was deep fried and covered with cream sauce and therefore probably no healthier than mine, though she looked awfully virtuous asking for it). It tasted OK, and probably raised my iron levels. Water to drink.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2001

Yesterday I had soup from the cafeteria here - it had some name like "tortilla soup" but I found no tortillas in it. It was more like rice with big hunks of chicken in kind of a spicy sauce. It was great. They have really good soup here.

I had some cottage cheese, too.

Yesterday I ate at work (not unusual) but I had leftovers (pretty unusual) from food I made the night before. Rice and dal and some corn with cilantro and tomato. Very good.

I had to eat it because I started this toothbleaching thing yesterday and it turns out I cannot eat curry for TWO WEEKS. If I do, my teeth will turn orange. I can't have carrot juice either, but I don't care too much about that.

I love curry enough to have orange teeth, almost. Damn turmeric.

Today I am betting lunch will be a veggie burrito or something from a trip to Whole Foods (probably their Crack Tofu or some soup).

Find a curry that doesn't use tumeric.

Vindaloo comes to mind. Mmmmmm.... spicy!

Yesterday I had a Boston Bibb salad with fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, gorgonzola cheese, roasted pignoli and balsamic dresssing. Yum! Today I had two slices of wheat toast, a banana (that I shared with my dog) and a glass of water. Thank god I'm going out to dinner tonight.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2001

Hmm, all my vindaloo recipes use turmeric, even though I don't think it is much. If I cook at home, I could certainly leave it out and not suffer too much, I bet. (Of course, that doesn't help the vat of dal I made monday night. I hope dal freezes well.) And I have a ton of Indian recipes that don't involve it too. I was being lazy and thinking I cannot walk around the corner to Darbar for lunch or dinner anytime soon.

Thanks for the idea! It will be a cooking weekend, I can see it now.

Uck, my husband and I are on a diet so I'm eating Weight Watchers frozen entrees for lunch. They're not so bad on taste, but they're so freaking small that it's doing nothing for my hunger.

Today it was swedish meatballs, yesterday chicken strips and mac&cheese.

I would much prefer a beer-battered chicken sandwich.

a baked potato with chili and cheese. yum! I could eat potatoes for every meal. mashed, fried, boiled, baked, etc.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2001

From Carl's Jr.: A Charbroiled Chicken Club sandwich, fried zucchini, and a chocolate fudge torte. I was aiming for a complete artery clog by 4pm so I'd be done with this crappy-assed day.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2001

I'm doing Weight Watchers too, so I had a non-fat flour tortilla, shredded chicken, brown and wild rice with a little cheese on top, all rolled up. 6 points max. Sounds gross, but tasted ok. Especially the cheese part. However, this is the first day I've journalled my food for a while. Bad, bad, bad.

No lunch yesterday, or today (errands). My manager is cool, though, and is buying us pizza this afternoon because we work so very hard. I suppose that's my very very late lunch.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2001

I didn't have lunch on Tuesday, and then went out for dinner that evening, had a full glass of vodka disguised as some sort of Brazilian mixed drink, and got shotgun-tipsy. Bam.

Mar, you've inspired me. I've learned my lesson, and have dedicated the following two days to finding a sandwich that would be just like licking god, only less linty. I'm thinking something with avocado in it. It's fun to close your eyes and grab one of those thirty-ingredient premade-that-morning gourmet sandwiches that fancyschmancy delis are fond of lining their counters with. But sometimes you end with a mouthful of sprouts, and it's not pretty.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Be touristy and go get a mountain sized sandwich from the Carnegie deli. Imagine it has cream cheese and avocado on it.

Man... I'm tempted to go get another one of those today. And I would if I hadn't had cheesecake for breakfast.

I am having lunch with my steady Wednesday lunch date, the divine and talented Ms. Minx, because I had to stand her up yesterday. I think I'm going to have Indian food. Then I'll sit at my desk in a stupor all afternoon.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Wow. I'm amazed you all eat lunch. I've gotten into the bad habit of waking up latish (between 8 and 9), eating breakfast around 10, and then not eating until dinner around 6. Maybe a snack in the afternoon - an orange or pretzels - but no real lunch most days. I know it isn't healthy, and I would feel better in the afternoon if I ate around 1 or so, but I think it's the only reason I haven't gained a ton of weight since I stopped exercising while I was finishing my dissertation. Anyway, you all have made me very hungry as I sit in the lab waiting for my last subject to finish.

Believe it or not I had a craving for...

...gas station hot dogs.

Lucky me, a new Chevron had opened down the street from work. Two hot dogs for a buck! All the toppings you want! I covered them with chili and cheese AND relish and mustard and ate them with some salt and vinegar Zapp's. Delicious and horrifying.

I know I'm a little late. I had two bagels for lunch today, which my professor kindly provides for one of our classes.

But my new favorite sandwich is Starbucks' turkey pesto panninni. It has dried cranberries and pesto sauce and fresh turkey... oh my god. My second favorite sandwich is the Starbucks' mozzerella pesto pannini, which has the same pesto sauce, cheese, and sun dried tomatoes.

I dread to find out how many calories are in those things, because they are soooooOOOoo good. With a caramel brownie for dessert. Working at Starbucks is very bad for my diet. Or it's teaching me self control. I can't decide which.

Harold.....I crave gas station hot dogs too. But mine are a little pricy. I like the sausage dogs so I have to throw down the extra dollar.

I don't know what is for lunch today, but damn you people are making me hungry and it isn't even 10am yet.
