Anyone know how much 12 stone of gold would fetch?

MIDFIELDER DEAL IMMINENT

Tranmere Rovers boss John Aldridge has opened talks with Newcastle United as he hopes to turn midfielder Des Hamilton's loan spell at Prenton Park into a permanent deal.

Hamilton is currently in his second loan spell with Rovers, after his original term was curtailed due to a knee injury picked up in a Worthington Cup tie with Leeds.

Aldridge says: "Des gets better and better game by game. He's proving that you don't go for £1.5million to Newcastle for nothing.

"He's worth his weight in gold for us."

The 24-year-old has failed to hold down a regular first-team spot at St James Park since his move from Bradford in 1997 and has subsequently been loaned to Sheffield United, Huddersfield and Norwich.

How much is his weight in krugerrands worth by today's valuation? Could be an even better deal than straight cash. Bite his hand off, Bobby!

Of course this guarantees we'll draw Tranmere in one of the cups next season and Des'll play a blinder and score against us. ;-)

Further, definitive proof that Dalglish knew a good First Division player when he saw one

I always thought he was alright when I saw him play for Bradford..but Div 1 was clearly his level. I seem to remember KD signed him on Chris Waddle's recommendation...
