Since Galaxy asked in the book thread...

Shadow of the Vampire is a must see. I'm not sure if it's out in England, or if it might even be/have been a BBC television film. BBC Films were involved with it anyway. Stars Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich. It's about a 1920's German filmmaker who is making the 'ultimate' Nosferatu movie....using a real vampire. But he tries to pass the vampire off as an actor who's very into his role and refuses to be seen out of make-up and out of character. Willem Dafoe is brilliant as the vampire. It's got some of the creepiness of a thriller, but is also very funny. In addition to several great facial expressions and hand movements, we left the theatre still giggling over our favorite line, "I'll eat her later".

You have to see the film. Excellent!

SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE (15)
Dir. E. Elias Merhige. USA 2000. 1hr 33mins.
Willem Dafoe is in award-nomination form as Max Schreck in this fabulously dark fictional spin on the making of the silent 1922 classic Nosferatu.
Nosferatu, directed by FW Murnau, is one of the most famous horror films ever made, not least because of its bizarre-looking leading man. This sleek fantasy suggests that the unknown actor Max Schreck might have been rather more at one with his character than anyone ever suspected. With the ever excellent John Malkovich as Murnau and Eddie Izzard, Catherine McCormack and Cary Elwes, this is also a cracking horror movie in its own right.
“Hilarious and creepy in equal measure”

What was Eddie Izzard like Allison , he's a great stand up , but desperately trying to make it in Hollywood , did he play his typecast baddie again ?

Can't remember which character he played. Other than Malkovich, Dafoe and Elwes, I didn't know who any of the rest were. There were no bad performances though.

Friend of mine saw it yesterday and said it was boring rubbish and that Izzard was terrible. Yer pays yer money...
Apparently Requiem for a Dream is very good - anyone seen it? Directed by Darren Aranofsky(sp) who directed Pi, which was top notch.

"it might even be/have been a BBC television film"

I take it youve never seen a BBC television, Ciara :-) They couldnt even afford the costumes never mind those actors!! Were charged £100 per year to fund them chasing up people who havent paid their £100 per year!!! Oh yes, they throw the odd fiver into the TV kitty for new programmes.
