05Feb2001 UK: Children meet Magpie heroes. NEEDY children received a boost when they met their Newcastle United heroes.

The youngsters, who had been deprived, abused, or were suffering from serious illnesses, chatted to the players at their Chester-le-Street training ground.

The children, all Magpies' fans, were presented with signed photographs.

Club manager Bobby Robson said: "They are all very brave children. They met us with smiling faces and, on behalf of Newcastle United, we wish them all the very best of luck."

Great story in the matchday (snowday) programme about Shay reading about a girl with leukaemia and all sorts of other diseases being a Toon fan and liking Shay in particular. He signed a shirt and got her into SJP to meet everyone. Nice touch. We do actually appear to have some nice lads playing for us...
