The overall meaning of Masque of Red Death

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

I have to write a research paper on the overall message/meaning of Edgar Allen Poe and since it could be several variations, I was wondering if you had any ideas or any concrete statements from the story that shows what he exactly meant by the "Red Death" story. Thanks!

I read the story, and did some research on E. A. Poe. I got to thinking that maybe the red death was tuberculosis, which was a disease that 3 women in his life had died from. That would explain the blood on the body in both cases. But, you also have to take in the fact that in the red death, you supposedly die within 30 minutes, but with tuberclosis, it's a much longer time. So...I just thought maybe these were related in some way. Right me back on your response.
