Have you ever read Annabelle Lee? That is about the girl that he married. She in fact was his cousin, but yeah, she was a girl. She died about 3 or 4 years after they were married, and later in his life, he found someone new, but he died right before the wedding of an unknown cause. So, no he was not gay
