What unplayable? A couple of snow shovels and as many willing supporters, that pitch could have been cleared in an hour. ;-)

Nah, it was unplayable.

I was in the town as the decision was made and it wasn't ideal football conditions. It would have wrecked the pitch even more whcih isn't good.

I recall a match in the 60's (probably the great freeze of '63) when supporters were summoned to clear the pitch one Saturday morn. With no undersoil heat straw was on the pitch to keep it warm and we had to clear it ready for the match. All in attendance got a free ticket for the game. Groundsman's name was Arthur(?) Charlton. Were any of you lot there on that occasion?
