S'ton Match thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Starting this thread early to provide a weather report from the Golden City.
Not so golden I'm afraid. It's dark, windy, cold and snowing - fairly lightly, but persistently. The snow isn't lying at this point, and I can't it presenting any threat to the game - but I can tell you it looks absolutely grotesque outside - the sort of day to curl up on the sofa with a good woman book.

We are not amused, min - try rubbing on chilli oil!
BTW - the weather's deteriorating!!! :-{(

Weather in Blyth sounds not too different from the way cin Clarky describes it. And guess who's left his bliddy T-shirt/vest behind. Aah well, two Toon tops and a jumper should allow me to join the soft southern Mags. Brandies in the Straabeery methinks. BrrrrrrrrrRobson to you too, Mr Traz.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

i'll never get any kip befiore kick off now....

NOT sound advice, clarky! ;))

Ooops - sorry about that, min.
It's an old Indian cure ...... for "vindaloo ring", if you know what I mean? Thought it might work for your warm weather smugness! ;-{))

should've known better....;))

Oooh please don`t let it be called off!! I`m really looking forward to it!!!(:o|

I am at work in the toon centre and the snow has started coming down properly now, still isn't covering though.

-- Anonymous, February 04, 2001

Snow is lying here in Ryton, about 1-2 inches. Shouldn't affect the game, there was far more when we played Manure - falling on Barthez's heed!

-- Anonymous, February 04, 2001

Can sympathise with min. Supposedly 36deg C here today and 39 tomorrow!

Will not be attending webcast as I will be watching and recording in the lounge!

See ya

Snow's just starting to lie in North Shields. It's so cold that lucky son says he dosen't want to go to the match today. So I'll be in the Strawberry fairly soon to have a Brandy if screacher's buying. Will I ned to wear a flak jacket, or have you all forgiven me?

-- Anonymous, February 04, 2001

That's made me feel much better Gus - 39 deg is way too hot for Geordies. Reminds me of Billy Connelly's assertion that Scotsmen actually have blue skin, and need several days in the sun just to turn them white!

Weather deteriorating slightly, snowing heavier now, but still not lying - at least at the Coast. I still don't feel there's any risk to the game, although the wind may adversely effect it.
What a day - yuk!!

......well it's not lying at this end of North Shields Rik - must be the Gulf Stream effect ower heor! ;-{)

All prepared here in Perth WA. 8-30pm and still a sultry 28c.

Pickles and beer in the fridge with the added bonus of the missus working nightshift. No interuptions of " EEEEEEHHHHHH is that live from Newcassle.

Must admit that the thought of wrapping up in big coat and doning boots and heading out to the match in the snow does sound more appealing. It may sound daft but I do miss the winter weather sometimes.

Is it the nice George Micheal video snow or that slushy crap that gives ya boots the white tide mark?

I've been watching a little of the golf from Perththis morning, Hiro - looks like a beautiful course and a beautiful area. Bit warm mind.

We've got friends who emigrated to Perth 20 years ago who are always inviting us over. We really must make the effort soon - I'd love to see Oz.

S*y Sports have just reported on the results of a pitch inspection at SJP. The result? Another pitch inspection at 2:00pm

It's still snowing hard here.

-- Anonymous, February 04, 2001

By the way, it was on a caption showing while there was a half-decent interview with Freddie Shepherd on. He says all the right things. Yeah, I know I know. You'd have had to have seen it.

Oh well, time to mosey on down to the Strawbeery to see the results of the 2:00pm pitch inspection. I'm going out now. I may be some time...

Lovely sunny day in Baltimore, up a bit later (due to late night last night), shower, off to get the paper, come home, order the ppv, make breakfast, fire up the laptop and settle down for some pre-match build up. Ooops, don't have Metro on my laptop, gotta go to the official s*ite for the link.....MATCH POSTPONED! AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

5am in sunny Auckland but i have to say - me losing a bit of sleep is NOWT compared to the poor beggars who've upped all the way from London and Soton and round and about to hear a late decision for a cancelled game.

-- Anonymous, February 04, 2001

Warm and sunny here. Gotup this morning all enthused about the prospects of watching the game. Not that I have had much luck lately. On my stay in the UK, saw them lose at Soton and at SJP v Charlton. On TV saw them go down to Birmingham. I never seem to hear the name Douglas Hall nowadays. Not so long ago he was always twinned with Shepherd.

Good to hear from you again floridian - thought you'd abandoned us. DH is rarely heard of or seen these days - I believe he's still living as a tax exile in Portugal. Big miss!

I think I better retire from weather forecasting after my performance today - bummer. The decision seemed questionable looking at the mimimal amount of snow on the pitch on Sky TV, but I'm sure the it was totally waterlogged - it was more sleet than snow that was falling. Although I was disappointed not to see the game, I'm quite certain it would have been a farce if it had gone ahead. Correct decision IMO - it's an absolutely foul day here.

On the bus to the toon, mobile rings - it's daughter "you do know the match is off" "Whaaaaat, the match is off you're jokling!!" By now the whole bus is listening. What the heck, we're on our way to the Toon, it's Jon's birthday so might at least meet the folks in the Streawbeery. Meet up with everybody, Dougal is consoled by signed piccy of Aaron Hughes, have too much to drink, go for a meal. Jon falls asleep on bus home. I wake him up at our stop. Best birthday he can remember - he's now snoring away while i post this!

Gal - I'm gutted. Wish I could have joined you for a quick Shank doon in Bunblefuck. Next time, eh? At least you didn't take me up on the offer for two tickets for you and Yelli. That would have been a real bummer and Pete would have had to have had a shank aal by hi' sel'!!
