I see from this week`s dog papers, that the next phase is now under discussion. Namely, including the USA and Canada in the scheme. Personally I think there will be a lot more discussion about this phase, and this could well prolong the decision.

I also think that this is the one that a lot of people have been waiting for (me included).

Of the two breeds that I have been invovled in, I think that it has already been illustrated that mixing US/UK lines can work very well, but I`m not so sure about the Irish Setter. Goodness knows they could really benefit from increasing the gene pool, having had such a terrible time with various hereditary problems over the last twenty years. However, the American Irish Setter is very different to the home grown variety, and I can`t see them being imported in any great numbers. In fact, I think the same applies to most of the gundog group.

Do any of you have experience of any other breed? What are your thoughts on the subject? (:o)
