Friday February 2 6:05 PM ET Supervalu Eastern Region Recalls Bleach

RICHMOND, Va. (Reuters) - U.S. food distributor Supervalu Inc. on Friday said its eastern region has voluntarily issued a recall on its 32 ounce Richfood label bleach product because it may contain ammonia rather than bleach.

The product was distributed to supermarkets throughout Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Northern Virginia, the company said.

About 500 bottles of ammonia were mistakenly labeled with a bleach label and shipped, Supervalu said. Those bottles were clear plastic while Richfood bleach products are traditionally packaged in white plastic bottles.

Supervalu said a majority of the product has been pulled off the shelves but consumers who bought a 32 ounce bottle of Richfood bleach packaged in a clear plastic bottle should return it to the store for a refund or replacement.

The products UPC Bar-Code was 11166 20961, the company said.
