Wow, I missed who directed this ep, but whoever it was did some great techniques. I really liked the one where Kerry and Luka are looking at each other in the hall and everything is moving double-time around them.

The other one was during Carter's confessional to Chase. It had almost a documentary feel to it - long shots and then quick cuts to extreme close-ups.

Normally I find directors' "tricks" annoying, but this director used them to enhance not distract.

Good job - loved this ep!!

I loved it. The time I really noticed it was when Romano was in the scrub room watching Elizabeth through the window. The lighting was dark, and we couldn't really see his face. Then at the end when he comes up to Elizabethin the patient's room, he arrives much like that other scene. Unobtrusivly, out of focus and very subtle. Very nice work

I really liked this one too. My 3 favs.

1. The slow-mo around Kerry and Luka. The expression on Kerry's face -- one of the few times you see her as a person, her pain and anquish -- not as a serious administrator. 2. The shot of Ramono watching Elizabeth through the window. Very few glimpses of him as person with real fealings and someone who actually cares about his employees (once with Lucy, now with Elizabeth). 3. The scene with Carter & Chase. Beautifully done. The long shots were incredible. I think it finally brought home to Carter what he really was -- an addict -- just like Chase and how could have so easily ended up like him.

Take a look at the end scene when Kerry is looking through the glass panes (when she goes to see Kim Legaspi)...the "distortion" effect adds a lot.

I'm not so sure I enjoyed ALL of the "artsy" shots in this past episode. Usually the camerawork on ER is very subtle and enjoyable, but I thought they were really throwing it in our faces during this episode, ("Look how creative we are!) and not letting us figure things out for ourselves. Actually, I'm being too harsh. Really there were only two things that actually distracted me from what was going on: The aforementioned Kerry/Luka blur thing which just came off as kind of silly, and several times the camera seemed to come into a scene from the floor area and panned up over a patients bed. I wasn't really sure what the purpose was here. But like I said, usually I enjoy the innovative camerawork, it just seemed a little over-the-top here.

When watching the part where Luka and Kerry look at each other while everything is moving fast reminded me of the music video "Two Becomes One" by the Spice Girls. Don't ask me why but it did.

Listen, the only "distortion" in this episode was Kerry trudging ever so pervertedly back to Kim's place (and, at obviously some god-awful inappropriate time in the night!)

Actually, since Kerry's shift began before Kim's, at 9 in the morning, despite the fact that the sweatshop fire probably delayed things, i highly doubt it was an un-godly inappropriate time of night. Kim had probably just gone home herself. And I don't think Kerry's motives were primarily perverted.

Did anyone see the film "Requiem For A Dream"? My friends and I all thought the direction in this episode - all the "tricks" used and the context in which they were used - was an imitation of the styles used in that film. Not that we minded, but the similarities are definite.

Okay, folks. I guess I missed this episode. What is it called, the one with Kerry and Luka in the hall with the chaos swirling around them? Is it "Surrender?" I think I read the review on it--I've missed alot of episodes this season, Urrgh!) And speaking of music, the review I read mentioned more than once a song that was playing when Kerry made her trek to Kim's house. I was intrigued and went out and bought the music--Amanda Ghost's "Silver Linings" on her "Ghost Stories" CD--good CD, too.

By the way, Andreaux. While I didn't see the episode you reference, I get the distinct impression that you would not think Kerry's trek to Kim's house either inappropriate in its timing or perverted had she called upon a male admirer. Correct me if I'm wrong...

I did see "Requiem for a Dream," Ellen Burstyn deserved the Oscar for sure! --No offense, Julia Roberts. The camera work was wonderful and I like that similar techniques are used in ER--it really illustrates the energy of the show's setting.
