Web site: Robert Appleby

This may be old news, but for visitors of this forum who are not members of the LUG or who don't regularly visit the LUG archives, I would like to enthusiastically direct your attention to Robert Appleby's web site which features some extraordinary photography of India. I'm really taken with his photographs. They remind me a lot of David A. Harvey's photography of Cuba. Mr. Appleby makes some effective use of fill flash (or "twinkie" light as some like to put it) in quite a few of his photographs.

Might I call upon the master himself to expose some tips and tricks of his excellent technique for our group here??

Well, Tony, it's very flattering and I do participate in this forum, so here I am. But I don't really have much to say. I use the simplest equipment - 2 M6's, 24/35 and rapidwinders with grips. Elitechrome because it's cheap in India. After that it's pretty much point and shoot. And have someone around for crowd control!

Thanks for the Harvey comparison!

Rob.

Rob

Superb stuff. Congratulations - I like the use of flash on many of your shots. Marvellous slices of lives most of us here on this forum just cannot imagine living. As Tony says, your approach is very similar to David Harvey's.

Wow, fantastic pictures Robert. Definitely worthy of National Geo. I'd love to hear your flash technique.

Robert, your photographs are extraordinary! They have a 'poetic' quality that portrays human dignity amidst inhumane, undignified conditions. Your portrayal is also an inspiration on many levels.

Tony, thanks for calling Robert's photographs to our attention!
