Green River Overlook

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

I thought I'd post an image since things have been pretty slow around here. This was taken last May -- Canyonlands National Park. I liked the kind of pastel quality the cloud shadows cast on the landscape (and tried to capture it). Canon Elan IIe, 20-35mm f3.5-4.5, Fuji Sensia 100.

I also like the hues as well as the flow. This would make a good canvas print, either on canvas digital paper or various printing options.

Excellent! I love the dappled look that scattered afternoon clouds give to the desert, and you've done a nice job of catching it. Nice composition, too. My eye doesn't get "stuck" anywhere, but keeps roving.

Do you think a warming filter would have improved the image any?

Mark, You are fortunate to have been able to see a sight as splendid as this in person. Thanks for sharing this image.

Out of curiosity, did you use an enhancing filter? The canyon floor has more of a magenta hue than I remember, and the sky looks to have a little magenta hue as well.

I didn't use any filters on this shot (I used a polarizer on some shots earlier in the trip, had some developed, and thought they were way too saturated and the skies way too dark, so I didn't use it for the rest of the trip, except on rare occasions). The scene looks pretty close to what I saw but it's very possible that the scan isn't completely accurate (I think my scanning skills are pretty much marginal).
