.dat files using NERO

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Just wondering if anyone out there knows why a VCD burned on NERO ends up as a .dat file. I convert it to MPEG1 prior to burning(of course) and play it on a CD-Rom, but it ends up a .dat file. This 'switch' obviously occurs durign burning... but why, and can it be avoided?

That it ends up as a *.dat file is as per White Book specifications. It means, among other things, that the MPEG file has slightly been re- structured to more closely correspond with the particularities of the way data is stored on CD media, hence the switch from *.mpg to *.dat. Why would you want to avoid this???
