and Spurs are shite right now yet still win home games and get crabby 0-0 draws away

Too early to criticise this performance but you have to say the reason we have been so inconsistent this season has been the unsettled defensive line up which has largely been out of our hands.

Injuries have dealt us a bad deal. The players have shown individually that they have the talent (Barton's had a bad season), it's just a matter of gelling them together.

Spurs are below us, would you rather support them?

Settled side are above us, we are probably top of the unsettled sides.

Lets see how the mackems do with Gray and Rae suspended for at least two games each.

All very true, BUT going a goal up against a team that can be fragile could have meant at least a point.

Argument being that the defence has not been disrupted any more than most Premier league sides.

Midfield and attack yes. And I guess the whole side contribute to a sound defensive unit.

Sunday is once again important.

Could be ninth before the game kicks off

Yeah the clean sheet situation is getting silly. I thought we were going to pull it off against Coventry but it never happened.

Still, the object of the game is to score more than your opponent at the end of the day.

Chelsea at home aren't a fragile team, I'd have to disagree. Only Leicester have beaten them at home (early on) and only two teams have got draws. Look at Ipswich last weekend. 1-0 up for ages then Chelsea score four in a flash and it's 4-1 to Chelsea all of a sudden. Leeds was a good result, but I never really expected us to beat Chelsea anyway.

KK's team would have attacked Chelsea though and played football. Far too defensive tonight though, destined to not score any more really.

I've been a strong supporter of Barton in times of adversity, but I really think YBR has made a mistake continuing with him, especially in a game like today. Having just watched the "highlights" on TV, it seems WB gets cought out of position too often. He does have a height advantage on Griffin but I think Griff marks his man much tighter.

Also, Goma is inconsistent. He can be brilliant but again gives away too much space on too many occasions.

We really have to break two bogeys - a win in Lahndaan and a clean sheet. A week on Sunday??

Agree re Barton and being caught out of position...it was scary last night. I think YBR's thinking is that we would be incrediby young and inexperienced without Wozza.

That's a crap reason for picking him when he's up against Gronjkaer.

Well, in fairness, Gronkjaer didn't start. Don't get me wrong, Wozza had a mare, and I'd prefer Griff to have a run with us, but I think Bobby's thinking was that we'd really only got Speed and Wozza with any sort of experience.

He did come on bliddy early though and Barton was booked before half time I think.

You were there Dougal and will know better than me but it sounded like Gronjkaer was gradually running riot in the second half.

Who looked like they were supposed to be marking Zola?

From what I saw on the MotD "highlights", it looked like the ever-so-luvly Aaron Hughes was trying (in vain) to keep up with G-FZ. Maybe Clarky's idea of Barton in front of the back four might have kept G-FZ tied up. But then there was Poyet. Crikey - the only man-marking that would stop him scoring against us is a man-s size 12 strategically applied.

Gronkjaer wasn't THAT good actually. Wozza made him look good. Actually, I thought Zola was sublime, too. He was given the run of the pitch. In honesty, I don't really know who was supposed to be marking Zola because he was almost always free.

Certainly for Zola's goal, Hughesie didn't catch up with him, but there were something like 5 other Toon players around Zola at the time so a bit of support for Aaron wouldn't have gone amiss. Take it from me, Screach - Aaron had a great game.
