Head Shots Best film for such?greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread |
I'm interested in taking head shots of my family for archiving. I plan to enlarge the prints to 8 x 10, which B/W films offer the best results in contrast, grain, and overall quality.Alix

If you have enough light, i.e. strobes or daylight... Agfa Pan 25 or Ilford PanF are beautiful. If you don't Ilford XP2+ works nicely Cheers

sorry but kodachrome 25 (tooooo maaannny colors) is a great film for such work (very unforgiving though), but kodak TMX is my all purpose b&w... fair tonality and darn fine grain for a 100ISO

I've always like FP4+ and HP5+ (or the Kodak equivalents). I'd just recomment to use medium format or bigger. PanF+ is nice but not needed with the larger formats. And Agfapan shows unflattering facial imperfections.

I think FP4+ is a gorgeous portrait film- sharp, but not unflatteringly so, low grain (and a pleasant grain when visible), and a tonal scale that does so well for skin tones.
