CM 99-00 Thread (Just for Screacher)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Rik, are you playing 99-00 or the latest version?

P'boro are in the third division and they start off with some excellent staff and first team players. Rightly so the board expect promotion in the first season which should be achieveable with a few decent purchases.

Their squad is far too big though and this takes a bit of time and effort to get it down to manaageable proportions. This also lets the youngsters come through.

I'm on cm 2000, although I haven't been on much recently.

My new faster laptop didn't work very well when I put it in the dishwasher, so I had to take it back to Comet. They sent it off to Belgiium and I'm back on my slower machines. Hence I'm only up to November of the first season

I've tried for tonton zola mokouko, who as we all know becomes a megaplayer in a couple of seasons, but he's already at Derby. I really think I'll cheat and give myself a huge desirability rating, then the likes of Jorgenson will come to my team.

So, is CM a good game? Can you play with others, 'cos me Ma always said it was bad to play with yourself. I have to confess, I don't like many computer games - computers are for doing real work, not playing around. Still, whatever turns you on. I hope you classified this so that I can easily get back to the rivetting discussion I expect will ensue.

-- Anonymous, January 31, 2001

Apparently you can play a networked game but I imagine that would be pretty tedious. It would be much faster to play with yourself, but that's life eh!?

Excellent footie management game but unfortunately it seems Rik and I are playing different versions as I haven't got round to upgrading mine yet.

I deliver the best defence and the best attack in the league, one defeat in around 20 matches and no more than 9,000 fans for a top of the table clash.

I'll wait till Robson gets sacked at Boro and jump in there unless they start to appreciate me! Who'd be a manager.

DB, Will CM 2000 run on your machine?

You need a PC faster than 400mhz and 500mb hard disk space . I can send you a copy for nowt if you give me your address.

-- Anonymous, January 31, 2001

So just who is going to the Bridge tonight? Last I can remember, it's Dougal, Gav, Sting, ..............................oh, who cares. Life doesn't revlove around football. Now, where can I get a copy of CM2000 from??

-- Anonymous, January 31, 2001

BTW Rik, just thought of another amazing young 'un. Landon Donovan. Not sure he'll even be in CM yet as he's been in Germany(can't remember which team) and has only made a couple of appearances here wiht the national team.

I've also got cm99 boxed if you want it Screacher, It's no use to me.Complete with instructions...

If you don't them **** off this thread.

-- Anonymous, January 31, 2001

I don't think it will run on my machine at home Rik. At home I've got a Pentium 100, 48mb RAM.

Mind you saying that, the CM99-00 has no right to run on my machine but it does and a lot quicker than CM97-98 used to, which is surprising.

I'm still happy trying to sort out Peterborough and I'm confident that by the end of the first season I will have a side promoted to Div 2, which will be challenging for promotion a year later.

"..... computers are for doing real work, not playing around....".

So spending time on here is "real work" is it Screach? Hey, I'm with you - it's the closest I actually get!

Of course it is Clarky. It's a business machine (and an International one at that), not a bliddy console. Talking of which, I see the Arse sponsor is about to be dropped. Sega are goinf to concentrate on s/w and not the Dreamcast.

-- Anonymous, January 31, 2001

CM is a top game, probably the best I've got.

I'm currently Hayes manager. Started in Conference and they're now Second Division leaders, going on Champions of Europe. It's taken me ten seasons so far to build the squad, get ground improvements etc. but it's good when it all comes together in the end.

Also my favourite trick is selling all Man Utd players on frees and signing shite for loads, big contracts, then releasing them. MAn Utd then go bankrupt and on mine they are now over £500m in debt and languishing in the relegation zone of the Premier. Great fun.

Screach! So will they go back to SEGA then , That allways causes a laugh when theyre playing Italian Opposition ;-) haha

The Peterborough bandwaggon strolls on!

I have had an interesting time trying to get ridiculous amounts of money from Man City and Spurs for two young players, which is really all a front to keep them, I find it works better than just refusing bids.

My squad culling has achieved the correct reduction in wages but the injury list looked too long at one point and having only two subs for one match was a bit bad! They're all coming back for the final few games now so still confident.

Amazingly I've managed to sign Paul Gerrard from Everton who wanted first team football. An outstanding keeper in the third division and it reduces the pressure on my back line to have such a quality, experienced keeper.

It's a bit more fun when you're in the 3rd Div. The Board are happy beyond belief!

I cheated and put one of the top scouts from Man U (Brown I think he's called) into my team. He's coming up with some fantstic players , in my pricerange. A good scout is essential in the lower leagues.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

Rik,

Did you sign him or use an editor or something to get him into your team? I have two scouts who both have excellent stats in the high teens but they still offer up some absolute durge in terms of players and I find it more worthwhile to spend some time scouring through the player search to find a cheap gem.

Des Hamilton wouldn't join me on loan but chose instead to go to Halifax, who are languishing in mid-table! Short sighted, short arse!

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

'Computers are for real work,' thats like a farmer in 1866 saying soil is for potatoes and grass for cows to graze, not playing stupid ball games.'

If you cant afford Tonton Zola Mokouko, sign Fatih Dincer.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

De Builder, dont trust your scout recomendations! But instead check the average match ratings, goals per match ratings, man of the match ratings of the players at the clubs he has recomended (in competitive and non competitive games), then add them to your short list.

Use you short list to filter out the best game ratings with the attributes you need etc.

I have noticed that on the evolved edition of 00-01 the scouting is much better though(eg. scouts with attributes of '20' in finding young players, and player judgement tend to find more gems), but I still dont trust the gits, they may be still tempted to try and stick a Darren Mcdoughnut in my bargain basket etc.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

I couldn't agree more Mr Smith, it's hard enough to get rid of the players you don't want without signing some more dross to piss you off.

Avergae rating can lead you to the good players but sometimes you wonder about the hidden stats which makes a poor player perform week in week out at 7.75!

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

You can use the pre game editor suplied with the game to look at the hidden stats, but I downloaded a saved game editor off the sports Interactive site. Mainy used it to knacker Man United, Gave them a 2,000 capacity stadium, no money, put beckham on £80k a week and made him crap. Also took their desirability rating down from 9200 to 1200, so nobody wants to join them . I did tinker with my desirability making it 5000, and low and behold Mads Jorgenson joined me. I also got a scout from Man U and made Kevin Keegan love me and hate Peter Reid. He is now my assistant manager, Skoke city then became Shileds, and I also gave myself 3 million.

OK so I cheeted a bit, but at leat I've come clean.

My first game when I played as NUFC I didn't cheat AT ALL and ended up winning almost everything in three or four seasons.

I see my cheeting with the stats the same as having someone like El fayid, or Jack walker as owner, a bit of a helping hand to speed things up a bit.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

To an extent you can do that without cheating Rik. Obviously you won't gain as quickly but with the right dealing I have made a few million and that has enabled me to sign some quality players, almost guaranteeing promotion.

Gaining promotion should raise my desirability rating by quite some way. I must admit it is good when a player joins the club because he is looking forward to working with you. You're reputation as a manager must count for quite a lot.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

I tried making one of my players better and found that in a game he didn't really perform as well as I thought he would. He then was unhappy because he wanted to join a bigger club.

I've three games going at the moment, A Newcastle one and a two player second division one. I've not touched them at all and don't intend to. , I just used the editior initially to sabotage Man U, but couldn't resist the temptation of tweaking things a bit. Out of all the things you can do I reckon getting the best scout in england is the best way to get ahead.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

This cheating malarky would make me lose interest. Whats wrang with a touch of adversity like in real life management. When you eventually get round to winning, the satisfaction will be like eating ten snickers in one go whilst downing a can of Lilt on a hot summers day.

My record WITHOUT CHEATING OK

Carlisle

season 00-01 3div Champs,

01-02 2nd Div Champs,

02-03 1div Champs, League cup winners, FA cup winners.

03-04 Prem champs, Charity shield runners up, FA cup runners up, UEFA cup winners.

04-05 Prem champs, Champion league winners, coca cola cup winners, European super cup runners up.

Plus about 75million in the bank.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

OK so i'll have a go at being a Michael Knighton , without cheeting, PROMISE

Seconds away, game four.

-- Anonymous, February 01, 2001

No play last night, went to the pub, on a school night as well. Thought about playing when I got in from the pub but decided against it for two reasons. 1) Girlfriend might get pissed off.

2) I normally try to sign loads of players when I'm drunk and I tend to be a bit heavy on the fines!

Update:..... Managed to gain promotion to the 2nd Division in 2nd place. Winners of Autowindscreens Trophy!! Started season in Div 2 well, in top half of the table. Purchased Lua- Lua for around £50,000 and he has now represented France at U21 level!! Not sure whether he is better as a striker or a winger but he can certainly score goals and mostly with his head!!

Davies - Welsh U21 Etherington - English U21 Jellyman - Welsh U21 Koogi - Danish U21

These honours mean they will leave the club for pastures new eventually but only at a price that suits me, as Davies and Etherington have found out.

Does anyone know how to send a loan player back to his club or are you contracted to keep him for the contract you signed him on?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

oooer missus my favorite thread is alive and kicking.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2001

Stoke City update.

I deleted my cheat game as it wasn't giving me much of a challenge. Still in my first season, Got Brady as a loan player but when his loan was nearing completion he wasn't doing the biz, so I sent him back to Newcastle . Now got a better loaner . I also find that as the new year turns some of my better players don't want to to discuss a new contract and arange to leave for higher division teams. This is despite me being in clear second place. I was worried at first about next season as I have no money. But then went to the player search and looked for out of contract premiership players that were INTERESTED in joining Stoke City. I got FIVE reasonable players to join my team in the forthcoming summer, if you can class Nicky Summerbee as a reasonable player that is. Also I must mention again Stan Collymore, he will drop down a couple of leagues and take a pay cut to get a game, My mate uses him so I can't get him but wish I had, the same goes for Taribo West. Oh did I mention that Steve Harper will also drop down to the second division? He cost £400k and is a fantastic keeper. I reckon with thew players I've got now and the ones lined up for next season, thewn the future is bright ... the future is red and white.

Keeping the thread alive! The dreams we had..........!!!

POSH, cruising in positions ranging from 11th to 5th. I still have unhappy Etherington and Davies in my team. I have to let them go but the money people are offering is an insult, so even though they are unhappy I will keep them because the performances are warranting U21 call ups which keeps the price high enough. I'm not asking silly money but the Premiership clubs won't accept that they have to pay 15% more to a small club.

I could do with two excellent central midfielders. You know one good guy and one bad guy!

This thread is expiring fast!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2001

Buy defensive midfielders who have high marking abilities, STEVE HOUSHAM or, MICK O'BRIEN (On my game they start the game with a 20 in their marking attribute, and both are great prospects, plus their attributes and value grow fast)! Use this marking ability when neccesary, eg in a match where a player seems to be controling a game, or if a player get a lot of goals or assist from midfield on his match average.

Buy attacking midfielders with high 15+ in 'technique and flair', 'creativity or dribbling', with high ratings, the computer usually values these as more expensive, but if you have a big short list you can find 'very cheap'gems who will be valuable assets.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2001

Try a lad called Pead from Coventry, he's my loner at the moment and I play him in my three man midfield. I also play a defensive midfilder and an normal midfielder, this tends to give me balance. I also play with 4 at the back , two srtikers, and a third striker in the hole behind. It's working well, I went top of division two last night. It's my first season, and I'll be very disapointed if I don't get automatic promotion .

-- Anonymous, February 10, 2001

I finally got round to the culling that was needed since my promotion.

Etherington, Davies and Jellyman all went for about One million pounds each. In return I have Johansen fom Bolton, Collymore (Swapped for Davies) and Callum Davidson at left back.

Par Ostemo is my star striker, only 20 but averages a goal every two games.
