Matrox Marvel G400 tv

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Does anybody know if there are any software, patches, hacks that will allow the Marvel G400 tv to capture mpeg files instead of mjpeg? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello Han.

Sadly, the Matrox Marvel G400 TV can not capture directly to MPEG video streams. It only captures full uncompressed AVI, Motion JPEG AVI and a hacked "hidden" YUY2 functionality AVI capture.

You can not capture to MPEG files because the video board does not came with the compression chip needed.

If you are interested on the "hidden" YUY2 functionality patch follow this link:

Hope it helps you. Good Luck.

I have a G200 and it CAN capture to an MPEG stream direct using s/w MPEG codecs like that with WinVCR, or the Ligos engine of MediaStudioPro when using Video Capture. I suppose the G400 is a later, better version of the G200, but even if it can, I DO NOT capture direct to an MPEG stream. First you need a very fast PC (1 GHz or better!) for any level of quality at all; you need an equally fast HDD if you intend to drop frames ONLY half the time :P, etc. The first and last time I did this quality of the captured MPEG clip was something to puke by; no amount of spec-tweaking made any big difference. If you really want to capture straight to MPEG, I suggest complementing that G400 with something from Broadway or Vitec that have on board h/w codecs really intended for direct-to-MPEG capture.

Yes It's posible to capture into mpeg with Marvel G400-TV.

I'm using Marvel G400-TV/WinXP and I can capture: - mjpeg(AVI_IO) - YUY2(AVI_IO) - mpeg(Ulead VideoStudio 6.5 - Video Capture)
