Sunderland's success good for the region

Sunderland's success last week is very good news for the region and should be hailed as such by all and sundry on here.

The retention of 1300 jobs plus the promise of 400 new ones at the Nissan plant is a very welcome boost to the North east economy.

It would be a further boost if Monkwearmouth Colliery could be re-opened IMHO. They could always knock down the environmental disaster that was built in it's place ... :-)

By jingo Jonno, you had me going for a nano-second there!

Like you I was thrilled by the annoucement regarding a more secure future for the workers at the Nissan factory, which is very important for the NE economy.

In addition, it would indeed also provide a great fillip to the area if Monkwearmouth Colliery could be opened for more than 19 days per year - most of those involve meaningless activity anyway!
I would however like to see the sad 'ponies' employed their get a well deserved early retirement - to quote Softies suggestion, either spending the rest of their natural 'sh@gging', or being rendered into glue (preferably the latter, assuming the odour could be effectively masked).

I chuckled when I saw the news report on BBC Breakfast last week when the man from the beeb kept saying Nissan S*******d and the local worker kept referring to Nissan in Washington.

Still turned over to the Big Breakfast though.

Just heard Sky are screening the reverse fixture at their dump 5.15 KO should be late enough to ensure there is plenty of trouble. Feckless twods, they should realise the instant arsehole brigade will be in their element.

Two points Tony,

the police have it well covered, ALL NEWCASTLE FANS will be ariving on OFFICIAL COACHES and will be escorted too and from the ground, So no trouble there then.

The other being, how many of us who don't get tickets will switch off Radios and Tv's till after the game and tune in at 5.15 to see it live?

I particularly enjoyed Sky News's take on the story: "Geordie joy as Nissan plant stays open"

You could hear the howls of outrage and shrieks of despair from Howdon. City my arse. Nobody knows where they are.
