Here we go again...

...the Sunday Sun today is speculating that Liverpool will launch a major bid to sign YKD this close season by offering £20 million in cash.
They add that Liverpool may offer Robbie Fowler in part exchange if he decides his first team prospects are not guaranteed at the Pool.
They say the Toon plc Board will have no option but to consider the offer, and may see a cash plus Fowler offer valued at £20mm as too good to turn down. It's interesting that Boro to note - not a plc of course - have simply put a £50mm price tag on Schwarzer to deter Arsenal.

If this story of Liverpool's interest in YKD is true you can just bet that Houiller and his evil cohorts will now begin a concerted campaign to destabilise Dyer's position at the Toon - as they have done very successfully recently in the cases of Hamman, Ziege, Heskey and Barmby, to name but four. IMO, their behaviour in these cases has been despicable, and should be investigated by the FA/PL. B@st@rds.

I posted on TheDailyToon bbs yesterday the Journal story that BR is contemplating taking Robbie Elliott back from Bolton in the close season - he is available on a Bosman.
This suggests that Bobby may not be totally convinced by Wayne Quinn - and indeed there are reports he is considering trying to extend the loan period to give him more time to make his mind up.
Naturally, via 'contacts' RE has expressed a desire to return if he gets the chance.

and the Sunday Sun helps Liverpool by speculating months before the summer even starts.

As a local paper, the Toon need to use the rags and I include the Ronnie as its mouthpiece rather than allowing the idle gossip we get given almost everyweek.

Having just painted the kettle black.....what would you feel about 10mil plus Fowler on his last two outings?

I would still say no thanks.Me thinks Bobby might too. as for the plc...

I'd simply say - no way, Houiller!

Fowler may be contributing to open play more than he used to but I'll be surprised if he is ever a prolific goalscorer again. Frankly, I don't reckon he's worth more than £5-6mm - so, if they offered Fowler plus £15mm I might just give it some consideration.

......I've thought about it. The answer's no - we don't need Robbie Fowler. The price is £30 million - cash.

You are the most devious b@st@rd, Gerrard; goodbye!

My 'favourite' paper (but not written by the Ryan tw@t)......the NOTS.....is running a story this morning that YBR is trying to get YKD to sign up to an extension in his contract which will keep him at SJP for the next five years.

His currenty deal runs for another three years, so it is only a two year extension, but it apparently hikes his salary to about 35-40 grand a week......doesn't sound like a deal to sell him by to me.....what you reckon

I think LKD may wait to see what we do in the player investment department before committing too much of his life to us. The worrying thing is, I think he was a Liverpool supporter (Gloryhunter, by his own admission) as a kid.

I reckon there's a lot of reporters with too much time on their hands and too many column inches to fill. Or the Mackems have staged a coup and taken over the local press. Considering the unbelievable amount of coverage they're getting this season, methinks that's not such a daft theory. ;-)

Teamtalk report today:

DYER TO REJECT NEW DEAL? Versatile Magpies star Kieron Dyer is reportedly set to reject a "double your money" contract offer, so placing his future at Newcastle in doubt.

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson is thought to be keen to agree an extension to Dyer's current deal, which would keep him at the club for the next five years.

Dyer's contract has another three years to run, but Robson is wary of the number of clubs eager to tempt the England international away from SJP.

However, it is reported that Dyer is reluctant to tie himself to such a long-term deal, and may be set to reject an offer that would double his wages to £30,000 a week.

Chairman Freddy Shepherd has already made it clear that he would only allow Dyer to leave the club should they receive an offer in excess of £22million.

...afterthought!

If YKD is only earning £15k pw at SJP the Club on a Contract that has another 3 years to run, they MUST do something to increase his salary to a competitive level for an England international - otherwise, he will seek to leave - guaranteed!

I agree Clarky. But put yourself in the lad's position (so to speak, you lucky fella!). He's doing well in a specimen vase side (middle-of-the-table - geddit??). He's no doubt a star. If he doesn't sign an extension, the club will be tempted by offers from richer clubs - perhaps ones (in his eyes) which increase his likelihood of success and international appearances (whatever they have to do with it).

I agree that £15K pw is low, compared with others), especially having been signed for £6M. The club must offer hin a better deal. But in return, he must sign an extension to his contract. Whather he will, I have no idea, But if he doesn't, we either have a cheap (£15K pw) player or a big (£20+M) asset to cash in on. It may not be football, but it is business.

Ah and what happens to this supposed 20 million pound asset when the transfer system finally gets re-igged?

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2001

I'd be surprised if Kieron didn't sign a new contract with the club. I don't know if the story is true but if it is then the club need to look at who is leaking these stories to the press at such an alrming rate.

Shepherd's recent interview on Century highlighted how much the press like to knock the club, so why do the press find it so easy?

Regarding the Robbie Elliot story, I don't see why this should affect the Quinn deal. We need left sided players at the club and even if we do sign Quinn we will still need another IMHO.

Sheff Utd are reportedly trying to put Quinn's name out on the market, a move which is upsetting Robson naturally, who feels he has first option on a £1million deal.

Will we see Lee Clark and Robbie Elliot back in the summer perhaps?

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2001

Don't disagree DB. However, part of my thinking here was - if Quinn signs in the near future would Robbie Elliott take a chance on coming back in the close season and becoming a squad player here, yet again?

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2001

If he is at the stage when Bolton are not prepared to offer him a new contract, wouldn't he jump at the chance to sign for a Premiership club. Then again if he wasn't a local lad would we be remotely intesrested in signing him seeing as he's effectively been rejected by a Nationwide club?

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2001

i always felt he was a better defender than Bez, but out of Keegan's team, he'll probably prove to be a better left sided midfielder than defender...;))

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2001

Elliot is a player who would bring more to the squad than just his football ability. The lad is a Toon nut. I think we've all seen him at matches since he was transferred away. He will add considerably to the team spirit which is a vital ingredient of a successful team (how would I know that?)

I've not seen him play so I've no idea if he's actually good enough especially since the injury.
