Has anybody read about when Canon might add IS to the 70-200/f2.8 lens?

The best rumor is that it is going to be an L IS DO lens.

I haven't heard anything about it being a DO lens, but according to EOS news at http://eosseries.ifrance.com/eosseries/lenscanon/news.htm it is supposed to be released sometime 2nd half of 2001. Also, according to this site the converted Dutch Mark price will be somewhere around $2840 US for a retail price, so I would expect this lens to start at around the same price as the 100-400 IS, about $1600. They also list the 400mm f/4 C IS to have a SRP of around $7350, so street prices may get down to about $4500. Of course this is all speculation, but thought I'd share it anyway...

Just for the record, the Dutch use the Dutch Guilder, the Germans use the Deutsch Mark, the exchange rate of which is about 10% higher than the Dutch Guilder.

All this will be old history by the end of 2001, as all countries of the European Union will start using the Euro in stead of their age old national currencies.

A belated comment on Canon 70-200mm lenses, albeit not the f/2.8.

Stewart Bell tested the latest Canon 70-200mm f/4L lens in the 27 January issue of "Amateur Photographer" (available from Oldtimer Cameras). He concluded, "I have seen many optics of this focal range since 1974 when I first examined a 70-200mm lens and, for me, this is the best yet."
