I am new in video producing. Please let me know how can i compress an avi file as small as possible so that i can publish it on the internet...unfortunelately, a lot of web host wouldn't allow a single file bigger than approx. 11mb. Is it possible that i can compress a 20min avi file to less than 11mb with ok quality. Or elso, any better quality, smaller file format recommend for publishing video on the web?? Thank you for your advises...

Everything is a trade off. Higher quality = bigger file, larger format = bigger file.

Visit vcdhelp.com and under tools look for TMPEG. There are also some good help forums there. Read this site - the answer to your question is probably already there somewhere !!!

Good luck, Steve

Now if i was you i would get the bitrate encoder and say how much space you want to work with then divx it. I think 650 looks just fine and you can fit a 2 hour film on one disc. Now heres something i found out if you use tmpg you can change the MPEG movie to 650 bitrate and make a VCD that fits on to one disc!!!!

YOU HEARD IT FROM JASON FIRST!!!!

You may use some software like: AVI Constructor (any version). It includes an AVI compressor, that would alloud you to compress a given avi file into another, using certain CODECs. Now If you want to convert, I would suggest to use the XVID codec. It's fast, very good quality, near the INDEO codec, just I was able to convert an 2 gig avi file (no sound) into an 800MB avi file, same quality. So try it.

Suppose you have a avi file of a reasonable size. It will be difficult to publish it onto a web site cause your host won't allow it. However you can link it to a ftp site you can host yourself on your own computer. Blackmoon is a user friendly program you can use to allow ftp from your pc.
