The FA have launched a bid to bring back more genuine fans to the FA Cup final after claims that they were losing out to corporate hospitality and freeloaders.

The FA Council have decided to mark the switch of the FA Cup final from Wembley Stadium to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium by making more tickets available to the fans of the two finalists.

County associations and sponsors will receive fewer tickets and those that go on sale to the two finalists will start at £20 rather than £25.

The Millennium Stadium's smaller capacity of 73,000 means that this year's May showdown will have 10 per cent more tickets available to fans than the last final at Wembley between Chelsea and Aston Villa.

"A vital aspect of our re-marketing of the FA Cup is that the final belongs to the fans," an FA spokesman told The Times.

"The ticket prices agreed by the FA board show how determined we are to make the showpiece final of the season more affordable for supporters."

The competition has lost it's gloss this season now that United are out. The price cuts reflect the lack of demand for tickets.
