how about a ballista?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I think a good challenge would be to make a ballista, its a large high powered cross bow(usualy about 6 to 8 feet long) it fires out large wooden arrows(about 3 to 4 feet long). to pull the bow back, there were ropes atached to the bow arms and the ropes were pulled back by large cranks. the object would be to either 1) see which one could shot the furthest or 2) to fire at a target and see which one could be the most acurate.

I belive Bowser built that on the U.k. Version where the teams had to build a device to fire a foot ball. His Idea(against the wishes of the expert) took the suspension from a car for his crossbow. however he lost terribly. Not only did the ball not fly far....but once it rolled completely back. too funny

the reason the ball didn't go far is because a ballista is specificly designed for arrows, the arrows have fleching on the back so it will go strate and it will go further.

You have violated one of the key principles of JYW. There must be two ways to skin the cat. A crossbow is a crossbow.

its not a crossbow! its much larger, and opposed to having the conected bow of a crossbow it has two seperate arms.
