Democrats 'DEMONIZE BUSH' DRIVE IS ALREADY BACKFIRING

[Snip]

Confronted by a president who shows the promise of becoming reasonably popular and being reasonably effective in the pursuit of reasonable policy aims in accord with the values of the majority, the Democrats are determined to depict this president as the apotheosis of radicalism and themselves as holy warriors against this evil.

[Snip]

Bush has given the nation a Cabinet that, in its demographic makeup and its ideological range, at least equals Clinton's "government that looks like America."

[Snip]

In the face of all this, the Democratic leadership and even more so the leadership of the liberal interest groups have responded with a hysterical campaign to paint Bush as a monstrous figure - an election-thief, a racist or something very close to a racist, an extremist or at least the willing tool of extremists, a genuinely bad and dangerous man. For most people, in the face of such evidence as the inaugural address, this is simply not going to stand as believable.,

Oh...one more little snip...

[Snip]

Bush is the first American president to appoint African-Americans to the highest positions of diplomacy and national security.

The man's been President for all of three days. Talk about spin!

Ain't:

Oh when oh when will you get your own mind? Policy aims in accord with the will of the majority? What the fuck? Bush DID NOT get the majority of the votes. Do you still believe the debunked statistics you posted a month ago showing Bush with the most votes?

This joke of a president got nothing close to a mandate. The first president "elected" in 120 years without the benefit of winning the popular vote. So do not run this shit on us.

And a cabinet that is ideologically diverse? Only if you consider that Ashcroft is so radically conservative that he makes the rest of the cabinet look liberal in comparison.

No one in their right mind(operative words) would say this cabinet is ideologically diverse. And we "liberals" will be calling spades a spade throught this administration.

Ain't:

Yeah, what's wrong with you? It's obvious that the only way to "get your own mind" is to parrot the NAACP!

And didn't you know that the *values* of the majority are the same thing as the *will* of the majority according to the "right" vote counts? How could you miss this?

The wonderful irony here is that FS is doing *precisely* what this NY Post article describes. It's just like they said frog and FS jumped by pure reflex. He simply could not help himself. And he promises to be a crybaby for years to come, like he's proud of it.

FS:

I'm sorry you have condemned yourself to such unwarrented misery. Even if *anything* you said were really true, it wouldn't be nearly as bad as you will make it for yourself.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), January 24, 2001.

You're sorely out of touch with reality. The majority of the 'Merican People are laughing their asses off over the Commander in Thief who oftentimes has difficulty constructing intelligible sentences. The comics are having a heydey and counting their blessings that this buffoon called Bush will provide them with an endless supply of material for years to come. And when the name Bush is uttered on late-night talk shows, the audience actually BOOS loud and long. The man is a laughingstock, a puppet, a dunce. He is nothing to be proud of.

The majority of the 'Merican People are laughing their asses off over the Commander in Thief who is so incredibly stupid he oftentimes has difficulty constructing intelligible sentences when left on his own without a teleprompter. And when the name Bush is uttered on late-night talk shows, the audience actually BOOS loud and long. The man is a laughingstock, a puppet, a dunce. He is nothing to be proud of. The majority of folks certainly have no respect for someone who would so deviously ascend to the Presidency by Supreme Court appointment rather than the popular vote.

I imagine this rancor will only grow deeper as he stumbles his way through the next four years, proving exactly how ill-equipped he is for the job. Rather than "unite", he has guaranteed nothing more than continued schism.

The above post in triplicate was not intended and occured as some type of posting glitch. This forum has been maddeningly erratic and persnickety of late as many others have also commented. Must be the sunspots....or chemtrails...or second coming...or something. har-har

Flint said of FS: "he promises to be a crybaby for years to come, like he's proud of it."

FS, think back a moment to your long ago years on the playground. Think about what kind of kid taunted others with being a "crybaby". Then smile. He's nailed himself again. You grew up. He didn't.

-- Miserable SOB (misery@misery.com), January 24, 2001.

It is the punishment of the envious to grieve at another's good fortune. Those too selfish to tolerate sharing are the ones who need to grow up. If they choose not to, let them suffer.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), January 24, 2001.

Flint, do you look like Frank Herbert? You sound like I imagine he "sounds".

-- Bemused (and_amazed@you.people), January 24, 2001.

What is FS supposedly envious of, bush's cabinet? Do you believe FS wanted a spot himself? What a strange comeback.

Flint:

Exactly what is it that I said that was WRONG? Hey. I do not cry. I write my congressperson and representatives. I write letters to newspapers. I take a position and lobby for it.

When was the last time YOU wrote your politicians on your positions? Crybabies complain. Real adults take political action.

-- FutureShock (gray@matter.think), January 25, 2001.

FS:

[Exactly what is it that I said that was WRONG?]

OK, I'll do my best to answer this. It's a legitimate question.

[Oh when oh when will you get your own mind?]

Come on now. "Ain't" posts quotes from the New York Post, and you post quotes from the NAACP, and then claim "Ain't" isn't using his own mind. I fail to see this distinction. Both of you are regurgitating material with which you agree. So?

[Policy aims in accord with the will of the majority? What the fuck?]

No, the Post editorialist spoke of "reasonable policy aims in accord with the values of the majority", which is a somewhat different fomulation. For example, both parties promised tax cuts, they differed on how those cuts would be targeted. Very similar. Both want to reform social security, but have somewhat different plans. And so on down the list. In essence, the Post is correct.

[Bush DID NOT get the majority of the votes. Do you still believe the debunked statistics you posted a month ago showing Bush with the most votes?]

True, Gore got more votes. The point of this entire editorial is that those who voted for Gore are seeing pretty much what Gore would have presented, though details differ around the edges. Bush, like Gore, is a centrist.

[This joke of a president]

No, he's not a joke. Why do yo make this effort to misrepresent him? Some posters here called Gore a joke, and were equally incorrect.

[got nothing close to a mandate. The first president "elected" in 120 years without the benefit of winning the popular vote. So do not run this shit on us.]

You have again run off into a ditch here. Yes, for the 4th time in our national history, the electoral college system selected a president who didn't win the national popular vote. But where is the "shit" you are talking about. The editorial's point is that Bush turns out to be a centrist whose policies aren't much different from Gore's, whose cabinet includes a democrat, etc. And this is all true. If you think the Post is full of shit, you should write to their editor and cite contrary evidence (if you can find any). [And a cabinet that is ideologically diverse? Only if you consider that Ashcroft is so radically conservative that he makes the rest of the cabinet look liberal in comparison.]

Not so. Ashcroft is admittedly at one extreme. But again, there's even a democrat held over from Clinton. There are hispanics, blacks, women, pro-choice people, anti-school voucher people, etc. Why not recognize this diversity? It's there.

[No one in their right mind (operative words) would say this cabinet is ideologically diverse. And we "liberals" will be calling spades a spade throught this administration.]

Here I believe you are being ideologically rigid. You seem to have decided that people generally clustered around the middle of the road do not suit your preferences. But they are in fact diverse. I expect you would prefer an entire cabinet of Feinstein clones, and that diversity is NOT what you're after, you're after ideological purity.

But I suspect Gore would have been obliged to select a bunch of middle of the roaders himself, with a token Feinstein just as Bush has a token Ashcroft, as a sop to the extremists among his supporters. That's politics.

Calling a spade a spade is well and good. But be careful you don't start calling *everything* a spade, no matter what it really is, simply because Bush was responsible for it. Only cry wolf when there is one, lest your concerns be discounted 100%.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), January 25, 2001.

And we "liberals" will be calling spades a spade throught this administration. I hope so. But so far, you "liberals" just look like fools. Boy this is fun.
