Southampton match - London Mags

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Is it on Feb 3 or 4th. Different sites show different dates. I do know it's live on Sky. Reason for asking, I should be in London (staying with a mate in Anerley)on the 3rd, for a few days, wondered if any London Mags had a fave pub to watch the match and assist me in sinking a few pints. Unfortunately I won't be able to head north that weekend. In and out in less than a week, but I might be able to squeeze a flying visit to the toon in midweek. I'll keep you posted.

It was originally Satruday the 3rd, but now moved to Sunday the 4th - 4.00pm Kick off for Sky TV.

Scratchy, Bobby, True and I usually meet in a pub in Hillingdon (Prince of Wales) for the televised games.....however, not heard from True in a little while (where art thou young Bill?) and he may have already moved back to the Golden City, which leaves Scratchy Bobby and me.

Bobby's house is on the market and they are also going oop norf so may or may not have made it up there by then, which leaves Scratchy and me (The Daily Toon Team)........

I'm not sure which of us smells but evidently by the way people keep leaving, one of us does, anyway.....the game is deffo the 4th and if we keep in touch we could always change our pub and meet somewhere else.......Evergreen's or somewhere.......where are you gonna be?

I fly into Gatwick afternoon of the 3rd, staying at a mates in Anerley, Southeast London Ken (SE20). Not sure but it's not far from the Crystal Palace area i think. Not too familiar with London. I am game to meet anywhere.

Dunno if True's moved back to Toon yet - somehow doubt it as I've only seen him and the missus at one game recently (he sits near me). As for the smell.............best mate to tell. Hmm - is that the problem?? I'm sure it's not you ITK. Nor Scratchy. Talking of whom, what happened to him last week? Nivvor torned up in The Straabeery.

Got a message from him early last week, he apparently ended up looking after someone and just made it to the match in time for KO.....no more details, Andy it's over to you.

PiC: We'll be in touch, might be better to try and meet in the West End.....will let you know

ITK - still aroond NW London - I've been treading the conference boards in the Northern Hemisphere swan singing me maths. Sounds good, Hillingdon for Soton - look forward to meeting you all again and Pete. Cheers Ken

Could be up for Evergreen's - surely you can't make the poor lad travel from SE to Hillingdon, Ken! Could go for the old Chiswick George IV option of course, not been there for a couple of years, and I think you'll find that it's exactly half-way on a straight line from Hillingdon to C Palace....:@)

Come on....let's make it the West End somewhere....get as many along as possible ;)

-- Anonymous, January 22, 2001

That would be fine by me Gav, as many as possible and make a good day of it. And I certainly don't mind where, after all they do have trains, taxi's and the odd bus in Lahndahn don't they?

Actually pete they don't ;) the transport in London is atrocious....takes an hour to get anywhere....even the next stop on the tube ;)

Alright then lads, where's it going to be? You know London a lot better than I. I really don't mind but the more the merrier, as they say.

Bad news.....I can't make it :(

Pete I live in SE London , and am about 5 mins on the train from C Palace , normally best to travel up to Charing Cross train station and walk up to evergreens .. good place to watch the match , just be careful for the worlds first FJ ( football jockey ) , he's Susies mate and does like a bit of live commentary , but the beers canny and the food is Ok too , i reckon we should try and get the full London Mags group out and mebbes gan for a curry or something after . Anyone else up for it .. Bobby , Ken ??

Evergreens sounds good to me Sting, I will come the first 5000 odd miles, I am sure the rest of the lads can make it across town ;-))

-- Anonymous, January 25, 2001

Evergreens sounds good to me, I'll try and tie it up with the Hillingdon posse closer to the day and we can post back then.

What date are you actually coming over Pete?

-- Anonymous, January 25, 2001

Should be up for that.

Ken, my flight is due in around noon (if on time) Saturday the 3rd, It's an overnighter and my mate is picking me up. No idea yet what plans for saturday night, but I have already told him we will be meeting the London Mags on Sunday and he's up for that. Unfortunately he's frae Glasgy and not too much a football fan, but a sociable lad, so he,ll sit and drink while we go mental with the match.

I am really excited about meeting as many of the folk from the BBS, faces to names and all that. Really looking forward to it. Anyway, bottom line is, I,ll go along with the group as I don't have to work next day. All I need to know is where and when.

Ill have no work either 3o'clock at Evergreens seems like a canny idea to me , then see what happens . Be good to get as many of wor out , as ill be leaving the country in about 4 weeks and it'd be nice to see a few faces .

Not sure if I'll come as Sting's invite didn't include me :-)

Although a revisit of the Champagne Curry house would be nice

So, how does one get to Evergreens from Charing Cross train station. I,ll be there early. New game when you all get there...spot the Canuck, and no, I won't be wearing a Red Carnation. ;-))

Wrong e-mail address on that last posting (Stupid Boy). So, come Sunday, Evergreens it is then. Directions please...anyone.

-- Anonymous, January 28, 2001

Pete, when are you leaving Canada?.......I'll post up an A-Z page when I can get to my scanner, but it won't be until tomorrow (Monday) evening at the earliest.

It is apparently not that hard to find, but a map would probably be helpful.

Actually Ken I think I found it (on the DT site...where else would it be? Doh!!) Looks like it's walking distance from Charing Cross Station, which is a twenty minute train ride from where I will be staying. So I should be ok. Leaving here Friday night on an overnight flight, gets me in around noon Saturday.

Bliddy good site that one you know........the people who put it together think of everything don't they!

See you Sunday
