I do - do I get a prize then?

Got back Friday evening, having sat around in Gatwick for half of the day after the overnighter from Nassau on Thursday evening (I get confused by these time differences you know). Half of the time we were over there, the Bahamas was in the grip of a cold spell, which I don't remember Pete-used-to-be-in-Bahamas mentioning! However, it was apparently the worst anyone could remember, although they may well say that to all of the more gullible visitors. The only TV we could get was from South Florida, so finding out the results was extremely difficult, but we could amuse ourselves with the weather reports.

"This is Steve Wolford for CBS4 news. And now, over to Maggie Rodriguez with some important information".

"Well Steve, it seems that when the temperature falls low enough, we get something called a 'frost'. This baby'll kill your plants unless you protect them. So here's the deal. You need an old sheet - not a blanket, that's too heavy - which you place over..." (contd p94).

So the cossies went back in the suitcase. Still, the endless supplies of local beer (Kalik) and disgusting cocktails (all apparently based on banana, coconut, pineapple, crushed ice, rum and something surprisingly coloured) helped.

No footballers to report cavorting with motorcycles/models/video cameras (delete according to preference) I'm afraid. There was a big convention on on the hotel for some multinational outfit, and we ended up in a bar with Erik from Oslo. Look I don't do that sort of thing a lot, honestly. Anyway, I explained that we were from Newcastle, the other end of the ferry. "Ah yes", he said, "I've just become president of the Scandinavian Newcastle United Supporters' Club". Apparently they have about 2,000 members, third behind NH and L'pule, and bring a hundred or two to most home games. I dimly remember promising that the pints were on me next time they're in the Strawberry - so if somebody called Erik with about 200 vikings is asking for me in there, I'll be the one running out the back way... We did fly over with Joe Brown and a couple of ersatz Bruvvers, and sat at the same teppenyaki table as some famous rapper or other from Atlanta that I'm too old to identify, but the high spot was definitely Erik.

Anyway I hope that you all enjoyed at least some of the football while I was desperatly trying to find creative ways to explain why I needed to phone the UK or find an internet access (that never worked) at the crucial time. And I hope that you made full use of the 'facilities for suits' Dougal - with any luck I could be banned!

See you for the Southampton game.

What took you to the city then Doc?

Hated it with a passion and managed to avoid save three occassions in nine years.

What about the 'Kalik'....certainly well named after the clanging cow bells. The Gold version is enough to send anyone off their heads. I think Tracey and I did our utmost in keeping Commonwealth Brewery in profit...say nothing about my tipple bacradi Gold..mmmmm

We were on holiday for two weeks, Pete - Cable Bay. Relaxing by the pool - huddling under two towels. Watching keen people trying the sea - and hastily retreating with purple chilblains.

Was just on the ordinary Kalik myself, but it proved well up to the job under the circumstances. Why go into Downtown Nassau?: well, it's called 'shopping' and I find it impossible to get out of on holiday, much though I try. Especially when there are lots of jewellers shops with demand fuelled by socking great cruise ships moored a few hundred yards away. Still, we didn't go there more than the three times...

Lovely to have you back, Bill. Yep, I made full use of your seat and nicked you programmes and team sheets. Have to say, I thought the people around you were awful for the Cup game but I think they must have come just for that game cos it was fine for the Coventry game. Surreally glamorous women's loos, though.
