"THY WILL BE DONE"

Original Air Date: 02/08/01

DR. CARTER STEPS OUT WITH ABBY; AUTHOR GEORGE PLIMPTON, OSCAR NOMINEE JAMES CROMWELL GUEST-STAR -- Dr. Carter (Noah Wyle) must attend a charity event hosted by his grandfather (guest star and author George Plimpton) and cajoles Abby (Maura Tierney) into filling in as his date at the last minute while Dr. Kovac (Goran Visnjic) treats an ailing Bishop Stewart (Oscar nominee and guest star James Cromwell, "Babe") and a 16-year-old (guest star John Peck) in need of a third heart transplant who both insist on treatment that could threaten their lives. Also, Dr. Malucci (Erik Palladino) is surprised by a patient's (guest star Robert Beitzel) reaction to some HIV test results, and most of the staff -- especially Dr. Romano (Paul McCrane) -- takes notice of Dr. Greene's (Anthony Edwards) new and aggressive post-surgery attitude.

I won't be home to watch this one as it airs. Don't know when the last time that happened was. I'll be at the first preview of "Ten Unknowns" (the new play Julianna's in). :-)

I knew it!! I knew it!! I knew the "event" would be a Carter family "thang"!! I am so looking forward to seeing the sparks fly as Richard tries to belittle Abby in front of the hosts, only making himself look ridiculous!! Oh I can't wait!! Thanks JLS!!

Thanks JLS! This should be very interesting. I hope Carter tells Richard to go to h*** if that does happen S. Trelles. Once again it'll be Carter to the rescue if that happens, right?

What do you know Erik Palladino might get more than two lines?

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), January 18, 2001.

Not necessarily Emma, maybe heŽll just listen to the patient and go "hmm" with an amazed look in his face... ;) just kidding...IŽm glad heŽll get more lines, because I think Palladino is a good actor.

Hmmmm.... The whole Malucci storyline kinda makes me think. Do you think the "surprising reaction" to the HIV test results could be one of the horrifying major things that happens during February sweeps? I remember last year they drop suddle hints towards what might happen. This could be very interesting!

I remember reading somewhere or the other, I think another source of spoiler, that the patient WANTS to get HIV. So, possible the reaction is a positive one. That would surprise me if I were a doctor.

I also read somewhere about a patient in the ER who wants to get HIV. Kinda strange, but whatever. Also, since when does Romano give a flip about Mark Greene? I can understand the other staff members being curious about him, but I don't know why everyone would be so surprised. The guy has just been through a life or death situation, and he's bound to have a new outlook on life. And I can't wait to see the Carter & Abby thing. Carter saves the day! Thanks for the spoiler :)

Thanks for the information JLS! I can just picture Carter telling Richard to go to you know where. Then again Abby can do that herself. She did a great job of that in "Homecoming" don't forget.

This is off-subject and I apologize. About two guest stars: Alan Alda (Dr. Lawrence) played George Plimpton (Carter's grandfather) in the movie Paper Lion, based on Plimpton's book. James Cromwell was in Anthony Edwards' first starring role in a movie, Revenge of the Nerds, playing the father of Robert Carradine, who was also a guest star in an early episode as a fake researcher who fooled Susan Lewis.

Minor and dumb coincidences that fall into "fun facts to know and tell." Thank you for your time.

fake reshercher who fooled Susan Lewis? Huh? anyway - thanks for the spoiler JLS! (too bad i'll know 1/2 of the story by the time i watch the eppy).

A new and aggressive attitude.....I hope this isn't a bad change.....you know like season 3's I hate the world so I'm going to get a gun and point it at people who bug me attitude. As far as the Dave thing goes in this episode I look forward to seeing him get some type of storyline. Primarily because the reason that I think more people would appreciate this character if he was developped a bit more.

-- Emma (webbef@hotmail.com), January 19, 2001.

Emma, I agree with you. I think people get annoyed with Malucci because he seems to be cold and unfeeling. They need to show his caring side more, like when he works with kids. I happen to like his character (what we see of it). Actually the only thing I don't like about him is that he isn't on enough. Erik Palladino told TV Guide that he wants Malucci to get more depth and feeling too.

I may be missing something really big here, but what does Richard have to do with a Carter family event and how do we know from the above preview that Richard is going to be there? Please fill me in...

Laura, someone posted a little while ago (probably JLS, but I'm not positive) that Carter and Abby run into her ex and his fiancee at a fancy function. Most were speculating if it was a "Carter Family Foundation" thing, but were trying to figure out how they would get the two connected (and if he happened to be there, he must be into some big money, which would piss Abby off big time!). I hope they're still putting him in, it could be "juicy". But I don't like how NBC says Carter "cajoles" Abby into coming. If that means what I'm guessing it means, hasn't he done enough "cajoling" with her? Anyways, I can't wait to see Carter interact with his harsh grandfather, and see how Abby deals with her ex and probably a jealous Luka. (probably some future tension beween Carter and Luka)

-- Elaine (mrsclooney78@hotmail.com), January 21, 2001.

Carter "cajoling" Abby into being his date, more like "begging" her, could actually turn out to be really funny! It's the most irritating thing to have to find someone to go out to a fancy occasion with at the last moment. I've known people who've had to really resort to desperate measures. Can't wait for this eppy!

A jealous Luka might be good if it leads to Carter getting his snooty nose bloodied. I do not usually advocate violence, but I would be cheering if Carter got his bones broken or at least got the wind knocked out of him so he couldn't talk, LOL. I hate him and I love it when something happens to wipe that superior look off his face. Luka would snap him like a twig if it got physical. Give the little pissant something to really be stealing pain medication over.
