"GOOD MORNING: I learned that Barbra Streisand had personally called 15 senators to urge them to deny George Dubya's nomination of John Ashcroft as Attorney General. I asked what Barbra told the solons. Her answer: "We live in a great country. We allow a woman the right of choice over her own body. We have some basic gun-control laws. We have affirmative action. We have laws that protect the environment. We have separation of church and state. We have laws that guarantee protection of civil rights and liberties. Why would we allow the chief law enforcement officer to be a person who doesn't believe in any of these laws?" Bravo, Barbra. Hollywood will have the opportunity to salute her bravery, as well as her (obvious) talents, when she receives the AFI's Life Achievement Award Feb. 22 at the BevHilton."
