i've read about this problem on this forum heare before. I beleive it had something to do with the size of the picture. What is the picutre size of your clip? it might not be the right specs

You need to have the proper aspect ratio. 4.3 and 352x240 for ntsc use and 352x288 for pal. What you do have is an mpeg made for a vga "monitor" setup.

more then likely the encoded mpeg1 file is 352x480 frame size. Pioneer DVD 525 & 302 (mine) will play virtually any frame size assuming the burning software allows it to pass to CDR. However, the player will divide the screen into quadrants and put the output in the 4th quadrant of the screen (top left) if the Y is full resolution and the X is 1/2 resolution. You can make bigger framesize VCD and play it normally with 525, but you have to use 704x480. 720x480 will stretch the screen vertically out of porportion, same goes for 640x480 (horizontally stretched). You can use mpeg1 in a SVCD at 480x480 and the result is the same as you are describing..
