Associated Press January 16, 2001 NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A malfunctioning engine forced a Continental Airlines jet with 23 passengers onboard to return to Newark International Airport on Monday. Flight 3779, headed for St. Louis, was about an hour into the three-hour trip when the right engine malfunctioned.The 50-seat Embraer 145 returned to the airport on one engine and landed safely. No injuries were reported and passengers were put aboard other flights, said Julie Gardner, a Continental spokeswoman.
It was not immediately known why the engine failed, Gardner said.
