Failure and how you handle it

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I have seen the show a number of times and have wondered if any of your teams have failed to complete, let alone proform with their creation in your show. So my question is....Do you not show them incompleting their task and reshoot the show.. or show it and let them be seen as failures?

So far, no team has failed to produce a working machine. Some of them work better than others, but they all work to some degree. To my knowlege, that problem hasn't happened yet. There have been some franic moments however, between "Teams, put down your tools!" and "The teams and their machines are ready to do battle!" The last minute tweaking can be a very tense time, like our good luck to have two buckets and styrofoam cannon wadding available with which to build our sabot for the " Acme Punkin' Musket #1" during the lunch break at the shooting range. The RDF staff is allowed to assist with things that would be a major safety hazard, like putting the prop guards on boats, roll cages on racers ect, the things that really don't affect performance of the machine. This all happens between the build and test time, not on camera. That's why some of the machines seem to change a lot between build and test. Waddy, "Wreckspert" for "Three Rusty Juveniles"
