Carol and her "official position"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ER Discussions : One Thread

Ok, I know that during part two of "The Storm", Carol got demoted from Nurse Manager because of the whole thing with Ricky Abbot. I saw the premire for season six yesterday where Carol sees the rude teenage guy who wouldn't give her his seat at the train and worked at the coffee shop. When he sees her at the hospital about to work on him, he asks if she works there, and Mark answers that she's the manager. Did we ever see her position get restored and I just wasn't paying attention, did the writers mess up, or was this just their way of letting us know that sometime over the summer, Carol got her old job back? I'm assuming the third one, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure. Thanks!

I think that Mark was just being sarcastic to make the guy think that Carol was going to be evil to him! Well, thats just my opinion!

I thought Mark was joking, too, meaning the manager of the whole hospital.

I saw that episode last night too, and I did catch the comment (although I caught it the first time I saw it). Anyway!! Yup, Mark was just being sarcastic to scare the teen who had been less than friendly to Carol earlier.

I think the whole point of the demotion was to lay the groundwork for Maura Tierney's character. Since the TPTB knew that Julianna was leaving in the next year, they wanted to introduce a new charge nurse. They had to be sensitive to both Julianna and the audience to introduce this character slowly, so viewers would get used to Maura. But on the other hand it would be awkward and insensitive to Julianna to have her replacement staring at her everyday on the set, before she even left. So I think that's why they made Maura's character a med-student. Now that Abby has lost her tuition, she's back being a nurse, just as TPTB originally wanted.
