Industrial tree (branch) chipper-shreadder

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

How about having the contestants build an engin powered Industrial tree (branch) chipper-shreadder capable of chipping up wooden fence postes up to 4 inches in diameter. Provide a large pile of old (or new) wooden fence postes of varying lengths (all within 3.5 to 4 inches in diameter) and have the team that generates the largest pile of wood chips after 5, 10, 20, 30, or however many minutes of 'grinding and chipping' be declared the winner. For a laugh at the end, have them try to 'shread' spme car tires with their machines.

Umm thats just a little too dangerous. People get pulled into those things a couple of times each year. little chunks come out.

How about turning this around and making a saw mill that could take pre-cut trees and turn them into the largest stack of 2 x 4's in the hour available. The 2 x 4's would need to be certified as to allowable variances by judges as in the mower episode.
