I think some of challenge where they built a machine that is supposed to fight the other teams machine, either directly or remotly controlled would be great. Sorta like battlebots or a demolition derby but bigger. I'd think there'd be a lot science they could impart during the course of the episode, as there are many different ways they could attack each other and defend themselves.

Answers

On the subject of fighting machines, I just saw a show where two guys were jousting on bicycles. So a jousting "machine" might be fun. Also, a human powered armored vehicle/tank through an obstacle course.
