Special Filter and Lens Accessory Compatibility

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon FD : One Thread

Today I made the fortunate discovery that the FD 300mm f:4 L that I picked up really cheaply recently uses the same 34mm drop-in filters as my 400mm f:4.5 SSC. The tripod collar from the 400 also fits the 300 (a bit snugly), but not as well as it fits the 400, and I would imagine that the 300's original tripod collar fits the 300 better, and might be too big for the 400.

Since the absence of original accessories for these lenses often has a disproportionate impact on the price, I thought it might be worthwhile to start making a list of what fits what.

So, as far as anyone knows, are all FD 34mm drop-in filters the same?

Does anyone have an idea of how many different removable tripod collars there are out there for FD lenses?

AFAIK all Canon 34mm drop in filters are the same. Also, all the 48mm drop in filters and holders are the same, including the earlier EOS (non-IS) versions.

SO those with big white Canon FD lenses can still get filter holders, gel filter holders, and polarizing filters.

Thanks, Terry. Good to know. Any idea whether they made a 34mm drop-in gel filter holder?

Nope, I don't have any lenses that take the 34s.

Yes, a gel filter was available and I have one. I have another 34mm filter on order and may convert it to a polarizer. If it actually gets here (there is some doubt as to whether it really exists), I might think about selling the gel holder.

Cheers,

Duane
