sb23 for F100

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hi all,

I was looking for a small flash to couple with an F100 and was wondering if anyone has tried using the SB23. Are there any disadvantages of mating this flash with this body. Also, how easy would it be to use fill flash with this flash/body combination? And I guess the 3D matrix metering of the F100 will not be used, will I really see the difference? Finally, for now the longest lens I have is the 85/1.8, would the hood interfere with the flash on a picture (will I see this "black half circle at the bottom of the picture)? Thanks for the responses and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.

Not exactly your set-up, but I have tested the SB-23 on an N90s with the 24-120 with hood and saw no shadow from the lens or the hood when shooting a blank off-white wall. Since the 24-120 is a larger lens than the 85, with a significantly wider hood, I suspect that your 85 will be fine.

What made the SB-23 work for me on the N90s was the ability to do flash compensation with the MF-26 back. I'm not familiar with the F100, but if you can have some control over the flash output TTL, then it'll probably do the job.

Oh yeah ... my distance from the wall was about two meters.

I use one on my F5, and really like it for a light, small, fit-in- pocket flash. The only times I have noticed any difference with a lack of "D", is when the subject is REALLY off center. Best
