Total Chaos Conclusion Show

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

I propose a challenge where each team builds machines to launch tennis balls (or tomatoes or anything fist sized and safe and preferably messy), and then, at the end of the show, for the challenge, one member of the RDF staff, experienced with remote controlled model airplanes would fly a remote controlled airplane in circles over the two teams, while all eight team members try to knock it down. The ammo could be powdered with colored chalk to mark which team made the hits, like paintball. As many machines as possible could be built in the ten hours, giving the team with the best designs, speed of assembly, accuracy and reliability the best chance of winning. If teams wanted to use compressed air, air and hoses could be supplied for the shootout. The weapons could be slings, rubber band devices, compressed air guns or anything that would sling or shoot without using explosives. It might even be fair game to shoot the enemy's weapons to disable them. Throwing ammo with bare hands would be against the rules until the contest is completed, resulting in a food fight at the end, (very educational.) It would generate some intresting designs, as well as have a lot of kid appeal.
